Published 07/28/02Elizabeth E. SunderlandEllenburg Depot — Elizabeth E. Sunderland, 76, of Ellenburg Depot, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born on Jan. 7, 1926, in Glendale, Calif., the first of 12 children of Everett E. and Florence (Baade) Sunderland. Elizabeth is survived by her son Christopher and his wife Chrystal (Porter) Sunderland of Ellenburg Depot; nine grandchildren, Vickie, Randy, Mandy, Jacob, Alexis, Lacey, Jordan, Jackson and Micala; three sisters, Doris Montague of Chico, Calif., Nancy Buck of Chino Valley, Ariz., and Audrey Jaussi of Preston, Idaho; and six brothers, Walter of Newberg, Ore., Miner of Selkirk, N.Y., Vincent of Peru, Lincoln of Peru, Phillip of Phoenixville, Pa., and Robert of Bountiful, Utah. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Herbert and a sister, Loraine of Ellenburg Depot. Elizabeth attended Ellenburg schools and received a bachelor's degree in education from Plattsburgh State Teachers College. After working about two years in the state lab at Albany, N.Y., she taught at schools in Bolton Landing, Loudenville, Rochester and Chateaugay, N.Y. She was a 50-year alumnus of Plattsburgh State. During her earlier years, she was an extensive traveler. During her later years, Elizabeth knitted and crocheted dozens of beautiful afghans, scarves, doilies, hats and mittens, etc. Genealogy was a favorite activity for Elizabeth, as she researched family lines back to settlers from Europe. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the United Methodist Church of Ellenburg. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Ellenburg Corners United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Sheldon Hill Cemetery in Ellenburg Depot. Donations in her memory may be made to the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department. Edward W. LawlorLake Placid — Edward W. Lawlor, 85 of Grandview Avenue, Lake Placid, died suddenly on Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born in Woodcliff, N.J., on Sept. 10, 1916, the son of John Walter and Emily Lawlor. Mr. Lawlor is survived by two sons and their wives, Stephen and Deanna Lawlor of Franklin, Tenn., and Ken and Dale Lawlor of Plattsburgh, N.Y. Four grandchildren also survive. His wife, Marjorie Smith Lawlor, died Dec. 31, 1992. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Rev. Michael Gaffney, pastor, will officiate. A reception for family and friends will be held following the service at the residence of Kent and Janette Pratt, 64 Riverside Drive, Lake Placid. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements. Sister Mary Alexis Parrotte, R.S.M.Lake Placid — Sister Mary Alexis Parrotte, R.S.M., passed away suddenly Saturday morning, July 27, 2002, at the Uihlein Mercy Center, where she had resided since Nov. 21, 2000. Prior to that, she had been a resident of St. Margaret’s Convent in Lake Placid. Sister was born in Saranac Lake on Oct. 5, 1924, the daughter of Theodore and Daisy (Abare) Parrotte. Sister was a graduate of Saranac Lake High School, Plattsburgh State Teachers College, Fordham Ext., Terry town, N.Y., and received her master’s degree in education at the State University at Potsdam. Sister taught at St. John’s Academy, Plattsburgh, Immaculate Conception, Good Shepard School, Our Lady of Scapular School and St. Patrick’s School. She became administrator of Health Related Facility at Watertown and vice president of Mission Effectiveness at Mercy Hospital in Watertown. Sister is survived by one sister, Gloria Savarie of Webberville, Mich.; four nieces; and one nephew. Friends may call at St. Margaret’s Convent library, Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Tuesday, July 30th, at 10 a.m. at Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel. Rev. Patrick O’Reilly, chaplain, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake. The Clark Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Blanche M. Hooper, 80, of Elm Street in Malone, N.Y., died Friday, July 26, 2002, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since July 22 and had been a resident of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home since May. She was born in Malone on Nov. 5, 1921, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (McDonald) Bova. Calling hours will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso - Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. |
