John H. Fenimore

Elizabethtown — John H. Fenimore, 49, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Center in Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Elizabethtown on April 29, 1953.

John graduated from the University of Phoenix with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was vice-president of field sales for Hedstrom Corp. of Orlando, Fla.

John was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle, devoted to, and a great influence on, his several nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was an accomplished musician who enjoyed his music and a round of golf.

He is survived by his wife, Judith (Kaleita) Fenimore; a son, Bradley; and a daughter, Elizabeth, all of Orlando; two brothers and their wives, Ken and Marsha Fenimore of Elizabethtown and Bob and Kathy Fenimore of Walkersville, Md.; several nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

His mother, Dorothy (Lang) Fenimore; and a brother, Wayne Fenimore died earlier.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Lewis Congregational Church in Lewis, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fletcher Allen Health Center c/o Stroke Program, Neurology Dept., 1 So. Prospect St., Burlington, Vt. 05401.

Roland C. Racette

Plattsburgh — Roland C. Racette, 81, of Ferris Court, returned to the arms of God on Thursday, July 25, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Redford on Oct. 4, 1920, son of Louis and Elsie (Supernault) Racette.

Roland was employed by Montgomery Ward for 14 years, he retired from Beekmantown Central School in 1985, where he was employed at Cumberland Head School. Roland was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

He was a loving father, grandfather and great - grandfather and an avid gardener.

Roland is survived by his wife of 51 years, Vanessa L. (Burdo) Racette of Plattsburgh; three children, a daughter, Iris Archer of Plattsburgh, a daughter and son-in-law, Carletta and Tod Vidock of Plattsburgh and a son and daughter-in-law, Elston Brenda Racette of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, Michael and Raechelle Archer Jr., Arielle Archer, James Collins, Derrick Racette, Katrina Racette and Shane Racette; five great - grandchildren, Gregory, Kiana and Alexander Archer and Skylar and Mckenzie Archer; several brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday evening, July 26, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 27, 2002, at 9 a.m. from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Endowment Fund.

Hugh Jackson Barlow

Lyon Mountain — Hugh Jackson Barlow, 80, of Marvin Street, Lyon Mountain, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Dickinson Center, N.Y., on July 17, 1922, the son of Ivan and Florence (Jackson) Barlow.

He was married to Gertrude Thibeau in July 1976. She predeceased him on Feb. 5, 1984.

Mr. Barlow is survived by a close friend, Geraldine Kwetcian of Lyon Mountain, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Roland and Helen Barlow of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Nancy Barlow of Malone, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Sib Barlow of Allentown, Pa.; and five stepchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Douglas and Keith Barlow; and a sister, Ruth Barlow.

Mr. Barlow joined the U.S. Army on June 17, 1943, and served in the infantry. He was a veteran of World War II and served at the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 6, 1945.

He owned and operated Barlow’s Liquor Store in Merrill for 26 years.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Lyon Mountain Protestant Cemetery, with Rev. Eleanor Bellows officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Lyon Mountain American Legion.

Donations in his memory may be made to Lyon Mountain Fire Department, Lyon Mountain American Legion or Hospice of the North Country.

Helen Bernice Douglas

Pinellas Park, Fla. — Helen Bernice Douglas , 83, of Pinellas Park, Fla., died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was born in Ellenburg, N.Y., June 21, 1919, the daughter of Oliver N. and Mamie (Tourville) Bilow.

She moved to Florida in 1962 from Churubusco, N.Y.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pinellas Park.

Survivors include three sons, Michael A., Lowell, N.C., Stephen P., Charlotte, N.C., and Thomas I., North Wilkesboro, N.C.; a daughter, Mary E. Brady, Pinellas Park; a brother, Leonard Bilow, Morrisonville, N.Y.; a sister, Mildred Bilow, Malone, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and one great - grandson.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, July 29, 2002, at 10 a.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pinellas Park. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clearwater, Fla.

Virginia A. Wormood

PLATTSBURGH — Virginia A. Wormood, 85, formerly of McMartin Street, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home.

She was born in Beekmantown, N.Y., on Dec. 21, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Lina (Rea) Marsh.

Virginia graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1933 and then from Plattsburgh Normal School in 1936. She then received her master’s at Plattsburgh State University in 1951. Virginia taught in several local elementary schools prior to retiring in 1972 from Oak Street Elementary School.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one son, Arthur M. Wormood of New York City; and three nieces, Rea Bishop of Cicero, N.Y., Virginia Jaeck of Hartwick, N.Y., and Sarah Hudson of Macy, Ind.

She was predeceased by her brother, Herbert Marsh in June 1986; and her sister, Esther Luther in January 2002.

Burial will take place at a later date in the East Beekmantown Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or the United Methodist Church.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth E. Sunderland, 76, of Ellenburg Depot, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday with the time and place to be announced. Burial will follow in Sheldon Hill Cemetery in Ellenburg Depot. A full obituary will appear in the Sunday edition.
