Published 07/24/02William L. CrissPeru — William L. Criss, 75, of Apple Valley Drive, Peru, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Gary, Ind., Sept. 12, 1926, the son of Louis and Gertrude (Gilbeault) Criss. Mr. Criss served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. He married the former Beatrice E. Barber Sept. 12, 1946, in Plattsburgh. He owned and operated Criss’s Grocery and Criss’s T.V. in Keeseville. He was a member of the Ausable River Lodge F&AM 149, the Shrine Club Oriental Temple of Troy, the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072, AuSable Forks American Legion and the Keeseville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505. Mr. Criss enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice E. Criss of Plattsburgh; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Rocky Dion of Keeseville; three grandchildren, William Ball, Jason Ball and Brooke Mullinax; and one sister, Gertrude Bushey of Plattsburgh. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Sandra Ball; and two brothers, Robert and James Criss. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Church in Keeseville, with Monsignor Leeward Poissant, pastor, celebrating. HubbellCHAZY — William M. Hubbell, USAF Col. Retd., 72, of Sunnywood, died on Sunday, July 21, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Mr. Hubbell was born on Aug. 20, 1929, in Mineola, N.Y., the son of George Loring Hubbell Jr. and Sophie (Young )Hubbell. He graduated from Garden City High School and was high school all American in la-crosse, a graduate of University of Maryland, First Team All American in la-crosse, three years; NYS la-crosse Hall of Fame and University of Maryland Hall of Fame. He was a member of the River Rats, a Veteran group of fighter pilots that saw action over Vietnam. Col. Hubbell was a fighter pilot having served from 1954 to 1980 with the U. S. Air Force in the Dominican Republic and Vietnam. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, among others. He retired in 1980. He then worked with the Department of Defense training foreign pilots and later retired to his family camp compound Sunnywood at Chazy Landing. Survivors include his wife, Renee Hubbell; two sons, Robert Hubbell and his wife, Betsy of Herndon, Va., and Bill Hubbell Jr. of Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Anne and her husband, Michael Bowman of McLean, Va.; a brother, George Loring Hubbell III and his wife, Loretta of Chazy; three sisters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Parsons of Spokane, Wash., Barbara Field and Sue Wohlers of Chazy; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Services are private at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory may be made to the Chazy Volunteer Rescue Squad. The R.W. Jeanette Amelia RothamelPLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — Jeanette Amelia Rothamel, 84, of Rugar Street, Plattsburgh, died suddenly Monday, July 22, 2002, at CVPH surrounded by her family. She was born on May 26, 1918, in Astoria, N.Y., the daughter of Arnold and Josephine Muller. She was predeceased in 1958 by her husband, Arthur Rothamel who she married in November 1943 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lynbrook, N.Y. Jeanette was a graduate of Brown Secretarial School in New York City and was employed as a secretary in the Freeport Public School System for the better part of her career. She was an active member of both Christ Lutheran Church in Freeport and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plattsburgh. An avid knitter, she was active in RSVP, volunteered her time at the Boy Scout office in Plattsburgh and was a member of the Order of the Easter Star. She was a former president of the Schuyler Falls Senior Citizen group and was involved in numerous Senior Citizen Centers in the North Country and a member of the Plattsburgh Newcomer’s Group. Jeanette is survived by a son, Paul Rothamel of Freeport, N.Y., a daughter-in-law, Cynthia; and a daughter and son-in law, Lois and Ron Wilson of Port Kent. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Erik, Susan, Andrew, Andrea and Joy; and a great-grandchild, Jason. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; a brother; and a sister. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 10 Adirondack Lane at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2002, with the Reverend Julie Bergdahl officiating. A reception to meet family and friends will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Burial services will be held at the Long Island National Pinelawn Cemetery on Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, N.Y. Glasgow, 84, of Ormond Beach, Fla., died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Bishop’s Glen in Holly Hill, Fla. Mr. Glasgow was born in Omaha, Neb. on Oct. 21, 1917. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Chadron State in Nebraska and received a master’s degree from Syracuse University. He received his advanced degree in administration from St. Lawrence University in 1944. Mr. Glasgow moved his family to the buffalo area, where he taught and trained aviation mechanics. In 1945, he moved to Dannemora, where he assumed a position of business teacher at Dannemora Union Free School. In 1952, he was appointed supervising principal of the K-12 Dannemora School from 1958 to 1978. Mr. Glasgow lived on Cumberland Head and worked as Beekmantown Central’s first high school principal he moved with his family in 1978 to Ormond Beach, Fla., where he has lived since retirement. All of his life revolved around family, friends and education. He enjoyed sports, crossword puzzles, scrabble and reading. He followed the north country schools and sports with great interest all of his life. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lydia Mae Wheeler; second wife, Mary Louise Towey; daughter, Mary; and son, Daniel Mekeel, as well as three sisters and one brother. Survivors include three sons, Ret. Col. John P. Jr. of Manassas, Va., Tom E. of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and George Mekeel of San Francisco, Calif.; four daughters, Patricia Moell, Raleigh, N.C., Joanne Glasgow, of Denville, N.J., Melanie Selig of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Mary Lin Haddock of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Maureen Larson of Yuma, Ariz.; and many grandchildren and great - grandchildren. Pisarek, 59, of Browns Mills died Tuesday at home. He was born in Baltimore, Md., and has resided in Browns Mills since 1980. He was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church of Browns Mills, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6508 and the Disabled American Veterans Post 27 both of Browns Mills. He was a retired Tech Sergeant with the U.S. Air force serving in the Vietnam War. He retired in 1980 after 20 years service. During his career he was awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, One Silver and three Bronze service stars, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and one with valor, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his military service he was employed by the Moorestown Post Office as a carrier for over 19 years. Son of the late Benjamin and Helen (Mach) Pisarek, he is survived by his wife, Helen (Hughes) Pisarek of Browns Mills; two sons, Bruce Pisarek of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Michael Pisarek of Browns Mills; a daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Justin Applegate of Novi, Mich. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 22 Trenton Road Browns Mills, with Father Edwin Matthias, rector, officiating.
