Violet I. Perreault

Churubusco — Violet I. Perreault, 76, of the Clinton Mills Road, Churubusco, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.

She was born on May 17, 1926, in Ellenburg, the daughter of Francis and Viola (Spoor) Deroseia.

She married Dellore Perreault on Nov. 22, 1944, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years; eight children and their spouses, Sandra and Emerson Lamb of Bondsville, Mass., Lorraine and Joseph Decker of Opelika, Ala., Pauline Powers of Chateaugay Lake, N.Y., Joe and Deborah Perreault of Mooers, N.Y., Janet and Ernest Rennie of Rockburn, Quebec, Patricia and Curt Provost of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Mike and Sheila Perreault of Churubusco, N.Y., and Voila Harriman of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; 21 great - grandchildren; two great - great - grandchildren; six sisters, Beatrice Charland of Malone, N.Y., Gilda Streeter of Wingdale, N.Y., Pearl Woodin of Wingdale, N.Y., Almeda Fuller of Dekalb Junction, N.Y., Yvonne Harrington of Wingdale, N.Y., and Jenne Cemko of Fort Myers, Fla.

She was predeceased by her parents; two children, Nona Perreault and an infant; five sisters, which includes Marie Deroseia and Margaret Gregory; and a great-granddaughter, Kristy Lee Paydos.

Mrs. Perreault was employed at the Malone Slipper Factory as a stitcher and was then transferred to Chateaugay Slipper Factory and retired at the Churubusco Slipper Factory upon its closing. She was a member of the Churubusco Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, July 21, at the Chateaugay Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, July 22, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco, with Rev. Howard McCasland officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the family.

Sally A. Barber

Beekmantown — Mrs. Sally A. Barber, 63, of the Rooney Road, passed away Friday, July 19, 2002 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Oct. 21, 1938, the daughter of William and Blanch M. (Everleth) Buttery. Sally enjoyed her family, watching old movies, wrestling, her dogs, cats, birds, shopping at Wal-Mart and playing bingo.

She is survived by her husband Rolland of Beekmantown, whom she married Dec. 11, 1954; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis Barber of Plattsburgh and Roland Barber Jr. and his wife Susan of Beekmantown; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Debra and William Lopez of Beekmantown, Lorri and Walter Rizzie of Beekmantown, Tammy and Keith Berg of Beekmantown and Barbara Barber and her companion Wayne Perkins of Ellenburg; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Elaine Buttery of Plattsburgh; 12 grandchildren, Roland III, Roxanne, Rachel, Justin, Jennifer, Elisa, Leeann, Shawna, Ryan, Brandon, Jesse and Shawn; a sister-in-law, Beverly Everhart and her husband George of Schuyler Falls; a brother-in-law, Robert Barber and his wife Doris of Beekmantown; and several nieces and nephews.

Sally was predeceased by her parents, William and Blanch Buttery.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in West Plattsburgh.

Friends wishing may make donations to Hospice of the North Country, American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.

Dr. Thomas Sherwood Soper

Gainesville, Fla. — Dr. Thomas Sherwood Soper of Gainesville, Fla., died Monday, July 8, 2002, at the age of 55.

He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of Martha and Harold Soper and attended Plattsburgh High School, graduating in 1965. He received his bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Cortland, N.Y., and his doctorate in biochemistry from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. He had previously worked at The Rockefeller University in New York City for six years and was currently working as an advisor for University of Florida at Gainesville in the Biochemistry Research Department.

Dr. Soper had co-authored several scientific papers in various magazines, including the Journal of Biology and Chemistry, Protein Engineering Magazine and Elsevier, published in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He was a member of the Protein Society, the Harvey Society, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, New York Academy of Sciences and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.

He enjoyed photography, archaeology and history, along with collecting books, video tapes and art reproductions.

Survivors include a brother, Richard Soper of Plattsburgh; a sister, Nancy (Soper) Faulkner of Lena, Miss.; three nieces; two great-nieces; and three great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Brown's Funeral Home beginning at 8 p.m. on Monday, July 22, with family visitation beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Kyu Namkoong

Pilesgrove Township, N.J. — Kyu Namkoong, 73, of Pilesgrove Township, N.J., died Monday, July 8, 2002, in the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, N.J.

Mr. Namkoong taught mathematics at Plattsburgh State from 1966 until he retired in 1995. He was a member of the American Mathematical Society. He was an avid gardener who also enjoyed photography, jogging, skiing and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Jin-Pill Kim (Box 273, Woodstown, NJ 08098); two daughters, Mihi Carol Namkoong of Cambridge, Mass., and Sunhi Ellen Namkoong of Silverthorne, Colo.; two brothers, Kyu Ee Namkoong of Hong Chon, Korea, and Kyu Won Namkoong of Seoul, Korea; and two sisters, Sohee Namkoong of Taegu, Korea, and Kyungza Namkoong of Northridge, Calif.

Services will be private. Burial will take place in Glendale, Calif.

The family suggests contributions in his memory to the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, 310 Woodstown Rd., Salem, NJ 08079.

Arrangements are by Woodside Funeral Home, Quinton Township, N.J.

Doris E. Burk, 92, who resided with with her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bernard Grogan of Lyon Mountain, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Bellows Falls, Vt., on May 3, 1910, the daughter of Walter and Estelle (Stockwell) Burham.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery in Waterford, N.Y.

Juanita A. Preston, 52, of Vermontville, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at her home.

She was born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on Dec. 8, 1949, the daughter of Ernest and Zana (Lawrence) Banker.

Visitation will be at Fortune - Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Patrick O'Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
