Sylvia Alice (Cowin) Munson

Crown Point — Sylvia A. Munson, 57, of Crown Point, N.Y., died unexpectedly in her home Tuesday, July 9, 2002.

She was born April 24, 1945, the daughter of the late Roland and Nellie (Brown) Cowin of Cheever, Moriah.

She is survived by her husband, William "Bucky" Munson; her daughter, Julie and husband, Mitchell Bennett of Putnam, N.Y.; a son, Jeffery of Crown Point and a son, Mark and his wife, Holly Munson of Ticonderoga. Also three sisters, Edna Rodgers of Port Henry, N.Y., Athleen Hamm of Syracuse, N.Y., and Lillian Humingston of Fulton, N.Y.; two brothers, Ralph and his wife, Janet Cowin of Cheever, N.Y., and Robert Cowin also of Cheever, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Munson was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Roland Cowin and Rodney Cowin; and an infant son, Jerry Andrew Munson.

Calling hours will be held at Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry on Friday, July 12, 2002, between 2 and 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at 10 a.m. by Reverend Hobbs.

Randall D. "Randy" McClatchie

Plattsburgh — Mr. Randall D. "Randy" McClatchie, 73, of Rugar Street, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Fort Edward, N.Y., on June 21, 1929, the son of Harold and Lillian (Giguere) McClatchie.

Randy is survived by his wife, Rose (Tobin) McClatchie of Plattsburgh; a granddaughter, Hilary Blanchard and her husband, Harold of Lake Clear; two great - grandchildren, Stormy and Anastasia Blanchard of Lake Clear; and a brother, Thomas H. McClatchie and his wife, Dorothy of Tennessee.

At Randy's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

Julius H. Daby

TICONDEROGA — Julius H. Daby, 75, of Sagamore Drive in Ticonderoga, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, unexpectedly at his home.

He was born in Crown Point on Sept. 2, 1926, the son of Harry E. and Ida E. (Sartwell) Daby.

He was a six year Army veteran who served both in the states and in Germany.

A member of the International Paper Quarter Century Club, he worked in the IP Ticonderoga Mill finishing room for 30 1/2 years.

He was a Blue Grass singer and song writer and he was a member of the Champlain Valley Blue Grass and Old Time Music Association, a group familiar to numerous hospitals and nursing homes throughout the Adirondacks.

Besides being a stone cutter who set his own jewelry, he was a scuba diver who organized the original Scuba Ducks in Ticonderoga. A woodsman who thrived on both hunting and camping, he served as pistol range officer at the Fort Ticonderoga Muzzling Loading Shoot for a number of years.

He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Brian Jett of Marshall, Va.; one daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Christine Daby and Alexa Daby of Glens Falls; one brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Joan Daby of Port Henry; two brother and sister -in - laws, Tom and Mary Curtis and Ed and Jean Vradenburg, both of Ticonderoga; special companion, Kay Porter of Ticonderoga; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife, Joan Phillips Daby; and his son, Jay Daby.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday, July 12, 2002, the Rev. Paul Dufford, Jr. of the First United Methodist Church in Ticonderoga officiating. Burial will follow in the Daby family plot in the Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to either the Ticonderoga Emergency Squad or Ticonderoga Fire Department.

Rev. Howard L. Stimmel

BRATTLEBORO, VT. — Rev. Howard Lincoln Stimmel, 95, of Abbott Road, formerly of Greenfield, Mass., died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in Vernon Green Nursing Home, Vernon, Vt.

He was born in Casselton, N.D., Dec. 1, 1906, the son of Smith and Annie (Sibley) Stimmel.

His wife, the former Reba Langworthy, died March 12, 1999. They were married Sept. 17, 1935.

He graduated from Central High School in Fargo, N.D., in 1924 and later from Jamestown College in North Dakota with a major in music pipe organ. In 1930, he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree and a year later received his masters degree.

Stimmel also attended summer schools at Princeton and Harvard. He pastored at the E. Middlebury Methodist Church, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and White River Junction and the Quechee Congregational Church. While in White River Junction he organized a new Methodist church in North Hartland. Other churches that he pastored in were Plattsburgh, N.Y., Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Albany, N.Y., Poultney, Vt., and St. Albans, Vt. He retired from St. Albans in 1974 and moved to Greenfield, Mass., where he made his home until settling in Brattleboro.

He taught at Green Mountain Junior College and was a trustee of the college. He was also trustee of the Troy Annual Conference.

Stimmel enjoyed music, traveling and photography. He enjoyed playing the organ and often filled in at many functions around the area. People would most remember Stimmel for his presentation of Abraham Lincoln, "Through My Father’s Eyes," where he shared how his father served as a guard for Abraham Lincoln.

Survivors include a son, Philip L. And his wife, Cherolyn M.; a grandson, Jonathon Smith Stimmel; and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Carol Jane died in May 1964.

Calling hours will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 14 High St., Greenfield, Mass. A funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jane Lawrence, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Greenfield, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Port Byron, N.Y.

Margaret Scheinin, 88, died at her home Tuesday, June 25, 2002.

She was born in Ohio on Aug. 5, 1913, the daughter of D.J. Demorest.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2002, at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Essex, N.Y. Her ashes will be placed in the St. John’ Columbarium.

Huestis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RYAN — A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on July 13, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora, for Robert M. Ryan, who died July 4, 2002, in Reston, Va. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, adjacent to the Church.
