Silvia B. Caceci

Blacksburg, Virginia — Silvia B. Caceci aged 84, died June 20, 2002 in Blacksburg, Va.

Silvia was born March 1, 1918, the daughter of Realino and Carolina Buonocore and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y.

In 1935 she met her husband, and they were married on Oct. 20, 1940. For the rest of their lives she was not only an exemplary wife and mother, but his true help mate, assistant and advisor in all aspects of life.

During nearly 40 years of active medical practice in the Kingsbridge - Riverdale neighborhood of New York City she was office manager, bookkeeper, receptionist and medical assistant, in addition to raising her children and maintaining the home.

It is impossible to comprehend how many lives this vibrant and beautiful woman touched and affected during her time on Earth. She outlived her parents and all of her numerous siblings, and for her children provided a link to their own ancestry. As a mother she not only provided guidance and comfort to her children, but included within her sheltering personality anyone who needed the boundless love she had to give. Her life was an affirmation not only of virtue, but of her strength of character, resilience, adaptability, and her refusal to admit defeat even in the most adverse of circumstances. All who knew her recognized immediately that she was someone special, and that no challenge was too great for her to deal with. At the end, when her body grew too weak to contain the strong spirit within, she accepted death without fear, leaving her family and friends with assurance of her acceptance by God and with memories which will never die.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Thomas G. Caceci of Blacksburg; her daughters, Leticia Caceci of White Plains, Va., Catherine C. Burke of Ray Brook, N.Y., and Gina Caceci Gallagher of Falls Church, Va.; and by her sons, Thomas Caceci of Blacksburg, and Michael Caceci of Pittsford, N.Y.; plus five grandchildren, Catherine Burke-Plumadore of Hillsborough, N.C., Thomas W. Burke of Ray Brook, William T. Gallagher of Falls Church, Va., and Caroline and Camille Lee Caceci of Pittsford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at the McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg.
