Wood, 83, formerly of Lyon Mountain and Christopher Road, Merrimack, N.H., died Friday, June 14, 2002, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility. He was born in Malone on June 18, 1918, the son of Leslie A. and Sadie Rae (Wilson) Wood. He married the former Virginia E. Patnode on March 17, 1940, in Malone, N.Y. Virginia died in 1985. Mr. Wood was a member of St. James Methodist Church in Merrimack, N.H., and also belonged to the First Benevolent Lodge No. 7, Free and Accepted Masons. He became an Entered Apprentice on Dec. 8, 1981, earned his 2nd degree, Fellow Craftsman, on April 4, 1982, and received his 3rd degree, Master Mason, on May 18, 1982. He was also a member of the King Solomon Chapter, the Northern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite and the Indian Head Shrine Club. He was a former member of the Lyon Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Howard worked as a miner for Republic Steel in Lyon Mountain from 1937 until it's closing in 1967. In 1967 he was employed by Tolbert Salvaging Corporation until moving to Merrimack, N.H., in 1968. There he worked for IMPCO as shop steward and retired in 1980. Survivors include his loving companion, Edith Kemp of Merrimack, N.H.; two sons, Les and Rose Wood of Lyon Mountain and Howard James and Wendy Wood of Milford, N.H.; four daughters, Mary and Bert Losacano of Uncasville, Conn., Joyce LaClair of Waddington, N.Y., Margo and Allen Kourofsky of Morrisonville and Tina and Peter Shields of Merrimack, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother and four sisters, Gert Kent, Keith Wood, Hazel Santemore, Flossie Wood and Margaret Kelly. Calling hours were held on Saturday, June 15th, at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. Calling hours at the Rivet Funeral Home in Merrimack, N.H., will be on Friday, June 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 10 a.m. at St. James Methodist Church in Merrimack. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain, N.Y., at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the Lyon Mountain Miner's Museum. The R.W. Lancto, 93, of Plattsburgh, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. He was born in Lyon Mountain on April 26, 1909, the son of Nelson and Delphine (Sorrell) Lancto. He was employed for over 40 years at New York Telephone in Plattsburgh, where he begin as a lineman and retired as a line supervisor. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Irene (Benware) Lancto of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Barbara Reynolds of Winooski, Vt.; two sisters, Eunice LaMountain of Plattsburgh and Magdelina Porter of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Michael and Dianna Babcock of Liverpool, N.Y., Dale Babcock of Galveston, Texas, and Lori and Jack Moran of Houston, Texas; a great - grandson, Jonathan Moran; and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Clifford Lancto; and sisters, Vivian Miller, Lillian Mahar and Leona all died earlier. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from the O’Neill - Redden - Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. A reception will follow the committal service at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall in Treadwells Mill. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Julie Hyde, 33, of Rouses Point, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. Carmen A. Van Ess, 77, of the Gale Road in Brushton, passed away Friday, June 14, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., where she had been a patient since May 28, 2002. She was born in Nice, France, on Feb. 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Francois J. and Louise (Biolchine) Trucci. Friends may call at the Van Ess residence on Sunday, June 16, 2002, afternoon and evening. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 17, 2002, at the Van Ess home at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Eleanor Bellows officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Brushton. Arrangements are through the Flint Funeral Home in Moira. |
