Catherine G. Rood

PLATTSBURGH — Catherine G. Rood, 79, of Plattsburgh, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh on June 3, 1922, the daughter of Frank E. and Edith (Caron) Gagne.

She graduated from D’youville Academy and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. She was a member of the Our Lady of Victory Altar-Rosary Society. She was a beautician for many years and was an accountant and later co-owner of Fleming’s Furniture in Plattsburgh for many years. She was also an avid bingo player.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Ruth Anne Rood of Montpelier, Vt., and James and Linda Rood of Plattsburgh; a daughter and son-in-law, Roseanne and Donald Defayette of Plattsburgh; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Theodore LaPier of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Janine Wyman of Greenville, S.C., Jeffrey Rood of Fort Drum, N.Y., Jon Rood of Montpelier, Vt., and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Edward A. Rood, whom she married Oct. 4, 1941, died on Sept. 16, 1998. Three brothers, Herman, Frank and Robert Gainer, and three sisters, Claire Backus, Yvonne Rock and Rosemary Dupuis, also died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Robert Orin (Bob) Lamotte

MINEVILLE — Robert Orin (Bob) Lamotte, 60, of Wall Street, Mineville, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Mineville on April 23, 1942, the son of Orin E. and Helen (Fish) Lamotte.

Bob had been employed as a supervisor at Essex Industry in Mineville.

He had been a member of the Army National Guard.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching football and NASCAR.

He is survived by a companion, Mary Whitman; seven children, Jody and Dave Bender of Elizabethtown, Bobbie Jo Lamotte of Mineville, Andy Jack Lamotte of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Craig Lamotte of Mineville, Lloyd Lamotte of Mineville, Jason Lamotte of Elizabethtown, and Adam Lamotte from Ticonderoga; 13 grandchildren; and five sisters and four brothers.

Calling hours will be held Monday, June 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the Church of All Saints in Mineville. Father Michael Toth officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Loyal O. Martino

BEEKMANTOWN — Loyal O. Martino, 76, of Route 22, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 2, 2002.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 22, 1926, the son of Earl and Blanche (Aganier) Martino.

Loyal was the assistant foreman at the Plattsburgh Foundry, retiring in 1970 after 26 years of service.

He was a member of the Mae Currier Senior Center and St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Loyal enjoyed buying and selling guns and antiques. He also enjoyed fishing and his computer.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Beekmantown; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Petra Martino of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Bonnie Rock, of Beekmantown; two sisters, Doris Dube of Plattsburgh and Joyce Lavene of Morrisonville; three grandchildren, Matthew Martino, Austin Martino, and Autumn Rose Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy.

Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice Care of the North Country.

ESTHER G. KASNOWITZ, 80, of Truman Avenue, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born on July 6, 1821, daughter of the late Samuel and Yetta Rosenwasser. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
