Hollis G. Merrifield

Plattsburgh — Hollis G. Merrifield Jr., 85, formerly of Tremblay Ave., died Monday, April 8, 2002, in Bristol Vt.

He was born on June 4, 1916, in AuSable Forks, N.Y., the son of Hollis and Eulalia (Robare) Merrifield Sr.

Hollis was a graduate of AuSable Forks High School, class of 1934.

He was a veteran, serving in the first Calvary of the U.S. Army in the South Pacific and then occupying forces in Japan.

After returning from the service Hollis started his own band the White Elephant and he was also a member of the Big Sound Band, playing in the area for many years.

Hollis was an engine mechanic for 26 years at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks, AuSable Lodge of Elks, and Past District Deputy Grand Lecturer, the American Legion Post 20, Plattsburgh and Keeseville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505. Hollis was a member of Northern Light Lodge 505 and Tahawus Lodge 790, F&AM and the NORCO Shrine Club. He also was a member of the Miramichi Dawn Chapter 477, Clinton and Essex District Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past Master of the Tahawus Lodge.

Hollis was a volunteer for many years at the CVPH Medical Center.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Shirley Merrifield of Weybridge, Vt.; one granddaughter, Sheri Speirs and her husband, Andrew of Barre, Vt.; two great - granddaughters, Ashley and Jennifer Speirs of Barre, Vt.; one sister-in-law, Arlie Merrifield of AuSable Forks; several nieces and nephews and many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris in 1996; two sisters, Sylvia Schutte and Betty Saltmarsh; and a brother, Arthur Merrifield.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home, with a Masonic ritualistic service at 5:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks.

Donations may be made in his memory to Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital, 1529 Cedar Ave., Montreal, Quebec H3G1A6.

Sister Anne Theresa Dostie

PLATTSBURGH — Sister Anne Theresa Dostie, 97, of Our Lady of Victory in Plattsburgh, N. Y., died on April 8, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

Sister Anne Theresa (Marie Anne Dostie) was born on August 9, 1904, in Ste. Methode d'Astock, Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Joseph Dostie and Octavie Boutin.

Sister entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in Bienville, Quebec. There she made her first Profession on August 25, 1928.

Sister Anne Theresa obtained her bachelor of arts at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y.

Following her vows, she was assigned to teach at Sallaz Academy in Redford, then at OLVA in Plattsburgh, where she taught Religion, History, Art, and Geometry in High School. She also taught at St. John the Baptist in Keeseville.

She was stationed in Connecticut for a couple of years. Sister Anne also went to Italy, where she worked as translator for a year. Upon her return from Rome, she was named Superior of the OLV Infirmary, a duty she filled for 16 years. During that time she organized and directed the Associate Program until its demise.

Due to failing health, Sister retired and became a resident of Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in June of 2000, where she lived until her death.

In addition to her sisters in religion, Sister Anne Theresa is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Sister was a great educator.

In lieu of flowers , please make donations to Our Lady of Victory Scholarship Fund (Mikey Leavine Fund) to help with Catholic Education at OLVA.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2000, at OLV Church.

WILLIAM A. FLETCHER JR. Died peacefully at home in Oakley, Calif., after a long illness on April 8, 2002.

He was born on May 14, 1921, in Troy, N.Y.

Memorial services will be held at the Brentwood Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at 4 p.m.

Alan B. Wilson, 68, of Maryland Road in Plattsburgh and formerly of Mooers, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home as of Tuesday evening.
