Published 3/31/02Francis L. WhisherFranklin Falls — Francis L. Whisher, 86, of Franklin Falls, Bloomingdale, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at his home near Franklin Falls. He was born on June 18, 1915, in AuSable Forks, the son of Alfred and Mary (Kyea) Whisher. Mr. Whisher attended school in AuSable Forks and was a mechanic for over 50 years, having his own business in Bloomingdale for a good number of these years. He finished his career working at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base, where he retired as a "master" mechanic. He was an avid stock car enthusiast in his middle years, having his own stock car, which he often secretly drove without his wife's knowledge. His home gardening skills were not only exceptional but also respected by many. His greatest feat was to get a Hubbard squash vine to climb an apple tree and suspend a 40 pound squash to the marvel of passers-by. Being a lover of animals, his two dogs and a cat will miss his unconditional love and affection. Francis was known for his dry wit and love of a good joke. He was a quiet man of few words, but when he spoke, folks were attentive of his special, chosen words. He said so much with so few words. He will be remembered by many who knew him for his sincerity, honesty and kindness. Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Phoebe (Snow) Whisher, also of Franklin Falls; a son, Jeffrey T.
