Published 3/25/02Richard (Dick) CrahanAuSABLE FORKS — Richard (Dick) Crahan, 52, of Route 9N, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born May 26, 1949, in Niskayuna, the son of Emmett and Dorothy (Williams) Crahan. Dick was a cook at Camp Adirondack in Ray Brook. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of the American Legion Post 504, and the Valley Pine Hunting Club. He also did catering for many organizations. Inactive member of the AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Dept., he operated the chicken barbeque at Holy Name Labor Day Celebration. He was co-organizer of the Fern Lake Fishing Derby. Dick operated the concessions stands for Fast Pitch Softball Tournament and the AuSable Valley Booster Club. He was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed horseshoes. Dick also was an avid gardener furnishing "Spicy Delights" for all his friends. He is survived by his wife, Terri "Yelle" Crahan, whom he married Feb. 24, 1973, at St. Matthews Church in Black Brook; three sons and fianceés, Cory Crahan and Beth Drake of Plattsburgh, Evan Crahan and Sharon Guiffre of Johnstown, and Eddie Crahan of Penn; a granddaughter, Shelby Leigh Crahan of Johnstown; a twin sister, Kady Kinsella of Lake Placid; a brother and his wife, Jack and Pauline of Florida; a step-brother and his wife, Gary and Niki of Virginia; his father, Emmett Crahan of North Carolina; a sister-in-law and husband, Cheri and John Laduke of AuSable Forks; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Urfirer, and step-father, Jules Urfirer. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Dick may be made to the Shelby Leigh Crahan Medical Fund, c/o Terri Crahan, Box 821, AuSable Forks 12912. Dick’s two-month-old granddaughter is recovering from open heart surgery. VERONICA ETHLYNN LaRUE CALDWELL, 95, formerly of Montcalm Manor of Ticonderoga and most recently of the Horace Nye Nursing Home of Elizabethtown, passed away Friday, March 22, 2002, at the nursing home. She was born March 2, 1907, in Ticonderoga. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at Montcalm Manor Adult Home on Montcalm Street in Ticonderoga. The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of Pine Lawn National Cemetery of Farmingdale, Long Island. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, Ticonderoga. E. RAYMOND HALE, 77, of Ogdensburg and formerly of Plattsburgh, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 11, 1925, the son of Kenneth and Lucille (Premore) Hale. Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and are under the direction of Brown Funeral Home Inc. in Plattsburgh. WALLACE E. TRAYAH, 69, of Dashnaw Road in Peru, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at his residence. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home Inc. in Peru.
