Lorraine Francis Corbiere

Morrisonville — Lorraine Francis Corbiere, seven months old, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at her home on Pine Haven surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born in Plattsburgh on July 24, 2001, daughter of Kerry Ann McClure and Francis Roger Corbiere.

Lorraine passed away after a valiant battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy,

Lorraine is survived by her parents of Morrisonville; a sister, Bailee Ann Corbiere of Morrisonville; her loving maternal grandfather, Robert L. McClure of Stafford, Va., her loving paternal grandparents, Wayne and Shirley Corbiere of Champlain Park; her paternal great - grandmother, Margaret Lavene of Morrisonville; one aunt and two uncles, Christine Stewart of Port Alleghany, Pa., Sgt. Shawn McClure of Germany, U.S. Army and Wayne J. Corbiere of Plattsburgh; and several great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the home of Lorraine’s grandparents, Wayne and Shirley Corbiere, 54 Seneca Drive, Plattsburgh on Friday, March 23, 2002, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to Spinal Muscular Atrophy research in care of Kerry Ann McClure, 3 Pine Haven, Morrisonville, NY 12962.

Mary Steingraeber

PERU — Mary S. Steingraeber went to join her Lord on Monday, March 18, 2002. Following a long fight with cancer, she died peacefully at home in Peru, surrounded by her family.

Born Mary Sullivan, daughter of Mike and Barb (Tupper) Sullivan, she entered this world on Oct. 15, 1947, at Physicians’ Hospital, Plattsburgh.

Mary grew up in the countryside of the Champlain Valley an avid swimmer, skier, horsewoman, hiker and lover of nature. She worked summers in her father’s sawmill and woodlands, graduated from Peru High School and later earned a bachelor of arts degree in creative writing from the University of Kansas.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Plattsburgh.

She lived and worked throughout the United States before returning to Peru in 1997.

Mary approached life with great passion. She was a voracious reader, a gifted artist and writer and the most dedicated of friends. She enjoyed laughing with her friends and watching sports with her nephew. She shared secrets with and was an honorary big sister to her niece.

Wherever she traveled, Mary’s experiences were described in her journals, short stories, and poetry. (A more recent poem won a juried competition at the University of Kansas). Mary worked constantly toward self - improvement and dedicated all she did to the service of God.

Mary was a much-loved daughter, sister, aunt and wife. Her husband, Sean Steingraeber, predeceased her.

She is survived by her parents; her brother, Michael R. Sullivan of Keeseville; her sister, Susan Sullivan and Susan’s husband, Steven Sanford, and their children, Emily and Benjamin all of South Cambridge, N.Y.

She is mourned by her family and friends here in the North Country, as well as by dear friends in Kansas City, Arizona, California, Carolina and Mexico.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful people who supported Mary during her struggle. Special thanks go to Hospice of the North Country and Mary’s personal champions: nurses Patty, Ellen and Wendy.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2002, at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A memorial celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at the First Assembly of God Church, 164 Prospect Avenue, Plattsburgh.

Elizabeth E. Boyea

MINEVILLE, N.Y. — Elizabeth E. Boyea, 62, of Foote Street, Mineville, died Monday March 18, 2002, at the Community Hospital, Elizabethtown, N.Y.

She was born on Oct. 23, 1939, at Burke, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Reynolds) Trombley.

She was employed at E.F. Goodrich Vergennes, Vt., from April 1965 to June 2001.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Boyea Sr. of Mineville; her children, Carol A. Rancour and husband, Robert Sr. of Moriah, Donald Boyea Jr. and wife, Linda of Mineville and Peter E. Boyea of Mineville; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Montville and husband, Chad of Plattsburgh, Robert Rancour Jr. of Moriah and Brandon Boyea of Mineville; her great-grandchild, Brexton Montville; her brothers and sisters, Leonard Trombley of Ellenburg, Ovid Trombley of Ellenburg, Floyd Trombley of Crown Point, Shirley Taverny of Ellenburg, Nora Smith of Ellenburg, Horrace Trombley of Ellenburg, and Asa Trombley of Lowville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by Mildred Prue, Richard Trombley, Herbert Trombley, Ranson Trombley and Eveangline Prue.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday March 20, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. at The Church of All Saints, Mineville, with Father Michael Toth officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y.

Ray L. Carter

Chateaugay — Ray L. Carter, 76, of State Route 374, Chateaugay, died Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., on Sept. 25, 1925, the son of Roy and Raya (Ashline) Carter.

He was married to Teresa LaBarre on Nov. 16, 1946, in Ellenburg Corners.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 55 years; two brothers, Ross Carter of Ellenburg Corners, N.Y., and Dale Carter of Ellenburg Corners, N.Y.; two sisters, Jean Minkler of Edwards, N.Y., and Grace O’Hearn of Ellenburg, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Carter was a graduate of Ellenburgh High School.

He joined the U.S. Navy on Nov. 2, 1944, and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946.

He owned and operated Carter’s Pride Potato Farm for 37 years, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Carter was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay, a member of the Chateaugay American Legion, former member of the Knights of Columbus and an honorary member of the Chateaugay Fire Department.

There will be no public calling hours. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at the Chateaugay Funeral Home, with Rev. Fay Ager of St. Patrick’s Church officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chateaugay.

DeLeon Homer Myers, Jr., 69, of Barcomb Avenue in Morrisonville, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Darlington, S.C., on April 7, 1932, the son of DeLeon Homer Myers Sr., and Melba Eva (Tarte) Myers.

Funeral arrangements are at the convenience of the family and are being handled by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
