Rudolph J. Blixt

VENICE, Fla. — Rudolph J. (Rudy) Blixt, 90, of Circlewood Drive, husband of the late Felice A. Gaylord Blixt, retired owner and operator of the R.J. Blixt Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, passed away Friday, March 8, 2002, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla.

He was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Hvena, Sweden, a son of Joseph K. and Ada M. Kaiding Blixt. Rudy came with his family to the United States at a young age, settling in the Port Leyden, N.Y. area. He attended West Leyden, Port Leyden, and Constableville High Schools. He majored in Industrial Arts at Oswego State University, and graduated from Simmons School of Mortuary Science.

On June 26, 1937, he was united in marriage with Felice A. Gaylord in the Congregational Church of Port Leyden, N.Y. For a number of years he owned and operated the R.J. Blixt Funeral Home at 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, retiring in the mid-1970’s. In 1978 the couple moved to Florida, making their home in Venice. Mrs. Blixt died Aug. 3, 1996.

Mr. Blixt was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of Venice. He was a member of the Plattsburgh Lodge of Masons, a Shriner, a member of Englewood, Florida Elks, a charter and life member of Plattsburgh Lions, having served as District Governor of District 20 of the State of New York. On June 13, 1992, he was awarded a Fellowship by his club and Lions International. He also served as president of North Star Funeral Directors Association of Northern New York and as a director of the New York State Funeral Directors Association executive committee, at which time he was instrumental in having legislation passed for the protection of the public.

He served as director and president of the S.F. Vilas Home for Elderly Ladies, Plattsburgh, for a number of years. He took an active interest in his community by serving on the Y.M.C.A. board, Clinton County Historical Society, Kent DeLord Museum, the City Planning and Zoning Committee and the City Tax Committee. He presented Champlain Valley Hospital a fully equipped ambulance, which was their first.

Mr. Blixt is survived by a daughter, Diane B. Natter of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a son, David W. Blixt of Champlain, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Karen Weiss, Karl Natter and Heather Blixt; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Leah Weiss and Madison Natter; and two brothers, Kurt C. Blixt and H. Ira Blixt, both of Venice.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Venice. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in the Port Leyden Cemetery, Port Leyden, in the spring.

Contributions way be made in Mr. Blixt’s memory to the Springfield Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. Arrangements are in the care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville, N.Y.

Brian M. Williams

Hudson FallsBrian M. Williams, 43, of Center Street, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2002, at his home.

He was born on May 18, 1958, in Glens Falls, the son of Vernon E. Williams of Palatine Bridge and the late Hope M. (St. John) Williams.

Brian was a 1976 graduate of Canajoharie High School.

Upon his graduation, Brian managed B and C Lanes in Hudson Falls. The bowling alley was his life and his love.

Brian enjoyed camping, cooking, fishing, napping and watching his soaps.

He was a compassionate, kind person, who never said no to anyone and always put others first.

He was predeceased by his mother; a brother, David Williams; his uncle, Euclid Baillargeon; his aunt, Betty (St. John) Gallagher; and a nephew, Ryan Voth.

In addition to his father, Vernon E. Williams of Palatine Bridge, survivors include two sisters, Theresa "Terry" Williams of Hudson Falls and Troy and Margaret "Peg" Voth of Canajoharie; three brothers, Vernon G. Williams of Tennessee, Keith W. Williams and his wife Dr. Bonnie Williams of Illinois and Lane A. Williams of East Greenbush; beloved aunt, Norma Baillargeon of Hudson Falls; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Scott and Marianne Burnham and family of Hudson Falls, as well as many others, too numerous to mention.

Family and friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

A celebration of his life will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., with a special service at 8 p.m. Thursday, at the B and C Lanes on Center Street in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will be at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Florence Brown

Champlain — Florence Brown, 87, of Canal Street in Champlain, passed away Monday, March 11, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Florence was born Aug. 7, 1914, the daughter of Emile Bechard and Alice St. John.

Florence is survived by one son, Alan and his fiancée Ann; two daughters, Agnes LaPointe and her husband Harold and Ann Davison and her husband Rodger; seven grandchildren, Erika, Joseph, David, Kathy, Dennis, Marty and Gary; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; six brothers, Frank, Harvey, Lawrence, Donald, Jim and Raymond; three sisters, Lilian, Laura and Evelyn; and her grandson, Kevin.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Coopersville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence’s memory to the Champlain Ambulance Squad.

Elizabeth Kilgore Hill

Malone — Elizabeth Kilgore Hill, 86, of Malone, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

She was born on May 27, 1915, in Jay, N.Y., the daughter of Leon and Elizabeth Kilgore.

She married Melvin Hill III in July of 1937 in Tupper Lake, N.Y. The couple operated the family farm at Thayers Corners until 1947, when they moved to Malone.

Mrs. Hill enjoyed her life as a homemaker and spending time with family; she enjoyed crossword puzzles and avidly followed the Yankees on television.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Melvin Hill III of Malone; a son, Melvin G. Hill IV of Malone; a sister-in-law, Arlene Hill of Malone; a grandson, Anthony and his wife Norma Hill of Dannemora; and great - grandchildren Kristen and Jordan Hill of Dannemora.

She was predeceased by her parents.

There will be no calling hours. Friends may join the family at funeral services, to be held in the Spaulding Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Spring interment will be in the Burke Center Cemetery in Burke Center.

Arrangements are by the Spaulding Funeral Home of Malone.

Lenora E. Reyell

BEEKMANTOWN — Lenora E. Reyell, 88, formerly of Route 22, died Sunday evening, March 10, 2002, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

She was born in Altona on June 19, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Harriet (Fisher) Trombly.

Her husband, Wilbur Babbitt, died in 1967. She married Harold Reyell in 1968 at St. Peter’s Church; he died in 1994.

Mrs. Reyell was a member of St. Peter’s Church and the United Paper Workers Local 389. She was employed at Diamond International Paper Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1978.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Connie McGarr and her husband Ross of Clermont, Fla.; five brothers, Clayton Trombly and his wife Helen of Rensalear Falls, N.Y., Daylord Trombly and his wife Doris, Ronald Trombly and his wife Jackie and Harold Trombly, all of Mooers and Norman Trombly and his wife Annabelle of Boca Raton, Fla.; five grandchildren, Craig Ormsby, Michael Ormsby and Todd Ormsby, all of Schuyler Falls, Howard Ormsby of South Kingstown, R.I., and Lynn Light of Plattsburgh; 11 great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One foster son, Marvin Collins; three brothers and one sister died earlier.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, followed by entombment at Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.

Donations may be made to the Heart Fund or the Activity Department at Meadowbrook Health Care in her memory.

Urgel R. Carpentier

PLATTSBURGH — Urgel R. Carpentier, 91, of Bailey Avenue, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Lacolle, Quebec, on May 31, 1910, the son of Joseph and Georgianna (Lanciault) Carpentier. His family moved to the United States in 1922 and Urgel later became a U.S. citizen.

Mr. Carpentier was educated in local Chazy schools and finished with vocational training in the machine shop at the Chazy Central Rural School, founded by William H. Minor.

His wife of 64 years, the former Helen Baker, died on Jan. 6, 2000.

He worked at the Pal Blade Company, working his way up from machinist to manager of production. After a brief stint at American Safety Razor in Brooklyn and The Rollar Smith Company in Bethlehem, Pa., he returned to Plattsburgh and spent the rest of his career with the Plattsburgh Foundry, now Plattco, where he served as VP of Engineering and VP of the Plattco Corporation. While there he developed and held patents on several innovative products, including the "World Renowned" dust valve used originally in the mining industry and in pollution abatement equipment all over the world.

Urgel was a member of St. Peter’s Church. He was active in the community, serving as past president of the Lions Club and rose through the chairs to become Leading Knight of the Elks Lodge. He was the oldest living member of the Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks and a member since 1947. He also was an avid golfer well into his eighties.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Rich Felak of Niskayuna, N.Y.; one son, Fred Carpentier of Berwyn, Pa.; three grandchildren, Marcia, Diane and Rick Carpentier; and one sister, Cecile Deshaies of Canada.

A daughter, Georgianna Carpentier, died in 1961. Six brothers, Ulric, Omer, Marcel, Arcade, Paul and Emile, also died before him.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with an Elks ritualistic service at 7:30 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at St. Peter’s Church on Thursday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the spring in the Riverside Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad.

GEORGE H. HOWARD, 60, of State Route 37 in Malone, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Fort Covington, N.Y., the son of Harold and Edna (Wescott) Howard.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 12, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Centenary Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Davis officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery, Fort Covington.

MICHAEL F. FISHER, 39, of 346 Soper Road, Keeseville, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh.

He was born Au. 31, 1962, in South Hampton, New York, the son of William and Patricia (Seely) Fisher.

No calling hours will be held. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.
