Published 3/8/02Walter "Ladic" TrybendisWITHERBEE, N.Y. — Walter "Ladic" Trybendis, 86, of Powerhouse Road, Witherbee, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center Plattsburgh, N.Y. Ladic was born at Witherbee, N.Y., on Jan. 15, 1916, the son of Stephen and Amelia Trybendis. He is survived by his wife, Stella (Easter) Trybendis; Stephanie and James of Chilson, N.Y., Tottie and Peter of Witherbee, N.Y., and Walter and Yvonne of Warrensburg, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Saturday March 9, 2002, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Father Michael Toth officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Frank Xavier Cwik Jr.Chazy — Mr. Frank Xavier Cwik Jr., 67, of the Dunn Road, Chazy, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Mariner Health of Inverness in Florida. He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 15, 1935, the son of Frank and Mable Civik Sr. He had served in the U.S. Army and retired from Diamond National / Georgia Pacific after more than 30 years of service. Frank loved the Minnesota Twins, golfing and his family. Frank is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Civik of California and Marie Miner and husband, Scott Miner and their two children of Peru; two sisters, Joan Lacey of Peru and Hope Harvey and her husband, Thomas of Wisconsin; his nephew, Mark Civik and his wife, Diane of Wisconsin; two great nieces, Regina and Vickie; and his good friend, Rodney Collins of Florida. Frank’s family will receive guests on Saturday March 9, 2002, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Saturday at noon at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. William G. Reamer, Catholic chaplain at CVPH Medical Center presiding. Entombment will follow at the Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road. Friends wishing may make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Harry B. SumnerFREEVILLE — Harry B. Sumner, age 79, of Hile School Rd., Freeville, N.Y., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at University Hospital after a brief illness. Harry was born Jan. 17, 1923, at Ilion, N.Y., the son of the late Raymond E. and Nellie M. (Cramer) Sumner. He was graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1941 and began working for the New York Bell Telephone Company. Harry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the 984th Signal Service Company in Africa, Italy and the US until his discharge in 1945. He was married to the former Helen B. Crowther on Feb. 22, 1946, and continued his 40 year career with the NY Bell telephone system living in Utica, Saranac Lake and Plattsburgh, N.Y. After retirement in 1981, Harry and Helen moved to Freeville, N.Y., where they enjoyed their home together on Hile School Rd. until the death of Helen in 1993. Harry was active in the volunteer fire department in Plattsburgh, N.Y. and was a member of Leonard T. Spaulding Post 1134, American Legion in Dryden, N.Y. Survivors include his sister, Virginia Nelson of Hamilton, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary Ann Sumner of Freeville and Cynthie S. Sumner of Englewood, N.J.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and a niece and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the Perkins Funeral Home, with John E. Sonne officiating. Burial will be private. Friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, N.Y. Memorials are directed to the Leonard T. Spaulding Post 1134, American Legion, 2272 Dryden Rd., Dryden, NY 13053. Edward Williams Leaning iii, 84, died at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown Wednesday, March 6, 2002. He was born in Albany, N.Y., June 4, 1917, the son of Edward Williams and C. Elizabeth (Crehan) Leaning II. Services will be private for the family. Following cremation, burial will be next to his wife in Buffalo. Local arrangements are with the Huestis Funeral Home, Willsboro. John R. Rock, 75, of Bushey Blvd., and formerly of Chazy, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. He was born in Champlain on Sept. 5, 1926, the son of the late John and Cora (Bouyea) Rock. There will be no calling hours. A private funeral service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Burial will be later this spring in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy.
