Published 3/2/02Catherine DerbyMYSTIC, CONN. – Catherine (Drewry) Derby, 94, of Allyn’s Alley, Masons’ Island, Mystic, Conn., formerly of North Hero, Vt., died Wednesday at Fairview Odd Fellows Home in Groton, Conn. She was born in New York City on Dec. 6, 1907, the daughter of Henry B. and Mable C. (Dwyer) Drewry. She was graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1926, and obtained a bachelor of arts degree at Vassar College in 1930. She later received a master of Social Work from Smith College. On Nov. 28, 1931, she married James Joel Hart in Hudson Falls, N.Y. Mr. Hart died on May 21, 1935. She then married Allen D. Derby and moved to Peru, N.Y. Mr. Derby died in 1962. Mrs. Derby was employed in the Clinton County New York Welfare Dept until she moved to Burlington, Vt., where she worked as the director of the Elizabeth Lund Home from 1956 through 1966. She also worked for Catholic charities in Burlington, Vt., until 1972 when she retired to North Hero, Vt. Mrs. Derby served as the librarian of North Hero, Vt., until 1990 where she remained a resident until moving to Conneticut in 2000. She was an avid cello player and had been a member of the Plattsburgh Symphony Orchestra. In her spare time Mrs. Derby enjoyed collecting old books and artifacts. She is survived by a son, James H. Derby, MD of Mystic and a daughter, Virginia D. Hahn of Golden Valley, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Michael J. Derby of Boulder, Colo., and Scott Campbell Derby of London, England. A memorial service will be scheduled in North Hero, Vt., on a date and time to be announced. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery, Hudson Falls, N.Y. There are no calling hours. LaGoyCOLONIE — Francis A. LaGoy, 84, of Colonie, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, after an extended illness. He was born in Malone and was the son of the late Frank and Leontyne (Trucheon) LaGoy. Mr. LaGoy was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, serving with the 1296th Combat Engineers in the Pacific Theater. He established the F.A. LaGoy Construction Company in Plattsburgh and later the Adirondack Aquarium. More recently, he worked at Albany Medical Center Hospital as building and grounds supervisor, from where he retired. Mr. LaGoy was a communicant of the Church of St. Clare. He will be remembered as taking great pride in this woodworking interest. Francis is the beloved husband of 63 years to Ines (Wheeler) LaGoy; He is the devoted father of Jared LaGoy and his wife, Bernadette of Niskayuna, Janice Campbell and her husband, Richard of Lincroft, N.J., Mary Ellen Rielly and her husband, Michael of Medford, N.J., and Stephen LaGoy and his wife, Bonnie of Baldwinsville; He is the brother of Eunice Adams of Pleasantville, Eleanor Burke of Idaho, Theresa Hamilton of Delhi, Robert LaGoy of Plattsburgh and the late Bernard LaGoy; He is the cherished grandfather of Christopher and Michael LaGoy, Jan Mirchandani, Ann Polhemus, Laura and Scott Campbell, Allison Wrede, Michael, Thomas, Elizabeth and Andrew Rielly and Blake, Bambi and Brittnie LaGoy; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian burial on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Clare. McBrideMooers Forks — sadly, we announce the death of Clayton W. McBride, 87, formerly of Blackmans Corners Road in Mooers Forks, who passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point. He was born in Chazy on April 23, 1914, the son of Warren and Grace (Darby) McBride. He attended Chazy Central Rural School. He worked for the Alcoa Aluminum Company of America until he retired from Alcoa in Massena in 1970. He is predeceased by his wife, Marion LaPorte RN who passed away March 13, 1988; three brothers, Chester, Harold and Charles McBride; and a sister, Margaret Laurin also died earlier. He is survived by his sister, Florence M. Wood of Plattsburgh; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dear companion, Rita Barney. There will be no calling hours. Porter, 80, of Fox Run Drive, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the Springhill Memorial Hospital of Mobile, Ala., while visiting his daughter. He was born in Brooklyn, Feb. 9, 1922, he was the son of the late Mason and Mary (Latimar) Porter. Mr. Porter was a veteran of the U.S, Army, having served during World War11. He married Aida Dina Rosso in Venice, Italy, on July 21, 1946, while serving in the military. After his discharge, they left Venice and arrived in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 11, 1946. They moved to Ticonderoga, N.Y., on March 17, 1947 and he has resided here since. His wife predeceased him on July 30, 1991. Mr. Porter was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga for many years and was a member of the company’s Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post 224 and the St. Isaac Jogues Council 333 Knights of Columbus, both of Ticonderoga. Mr. Porter was an avid golfer and bowler. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one son, Howard J. Porter; and one sister, Pearl White. Survivors include three sons, John D. Porter of Whitehall, Michael T. Porter and William P. Porter, both of Ticonderoga; two daughters, Linda M. Edmond of Mobile, Ala., and Deborah J. Wilson of Ticonderoga; and three brothers, Walter Porter, Milton Porter, and Richard Porter, all of Ticonderoga. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. BrantKeeseville — Mary A. Brant, 65, of Grove Street, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Whallonsburgh, N.Y., Oct. 3, 1936, the daughter of Harold and Marie (LaFountain) Larrabee. She is survived by three daughters, Susan Pierce of Keeseville, Theresa and Ed Cobb of Plattsburgh and Ann and Terry LaRose of Keeseville; four sons, Ralph and Kim Pierce of Maine, Gary and Liz Pierce of Willsboro, Peter Pierce and his companion, Lori Dalley of Vermont and Donald Pierce of Michigan; two sisters, Eileen and Wayne Rockwell of Morrisonville and Diane and Butch Carr of Plattsburgh; one brother, Leon and Shirley Larrabee of Vermont; 18 grandchildren; six great - grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two of her children, Richard and Gladys. Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 3, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Crossman, 56, of the Warner Road, Malone, N.Y., died Thursday morning, Feb. 28, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt. He had been a patient there since Feb. 24, 2002. He was born in Islip, Long Island, Nov. 23, 1945, the son of the late Frank and Marcella (Dalmus) Crossman. There are no calling hours.
