Bernadette C. Jarvis

Peru — Bernadette C. Jarvis, 81, formerly of the Fuller Road, Peru, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Peru, May 21, 1920, the daughter of Victor and Ida (LaPointe) Jarvis.

She worked at Prescott’s Mill in Keeseville for a time, Jeanie’s Dairy Bar in Peru and was a school bus driver for several years at the AuSable Valley Central School.

She was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Peru.

She enjoyed woodworking (refinishing) and fishing.

Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth O’Malley of Plattsburgh; her niece, Vonna (William) Reid of Peru; her nephew, Francis E. Gowette of Plattsburgh; and great - nieces, Vanessa (James) McConnell of Peru and Vonda Remy of Ohio.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. William Reamer, chaplain at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Peru.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Elmore SPCA.

Bernard H. O’Brien Jr.

Ticonderoga — Bernard H. O’Brien Jr., 82, of St. Clair Street, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center of Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Ticonderoga, April 20, 1919, the son of the late Bernard H. and Anna (Cenate) O’Brien Sr.

Mr. O’Brien was a lifetime resident of Ticonderoga. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga.

He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga for 43 years and was a member of the Company’s Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Local Union 5.

Mr. O’Brien was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Trombley and John Trombley; and three sisters, Mildred Lucier, Adwilda Burris, and Veronica Porter.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rita (LaFountain) O’Brien; one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Florence) Castrodale of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his good friends, Steve and Beth Nadeau of Ticonderoga.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, and the Rev. Mr. Elliott A. Shaw will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of St. Patrick’s Cemetery of Port Henry in the spring.

Mary A. Brant

Keeseville — Mary A. Brant, 65, of Grove Street, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Whallonsburgh, N.Y., Oct. 3, 1936, the daughter of Harold and Marie (LaFountain) Larrabee.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Pierce of Keeseville, Theresa and Ed Cobb of Plattsburgh and Ann and Terry LaRose of Keeseville; four sons, Ralph and Kim Pierce of Maine, Gary and Liz Pierce of Willsboro, Peter Pierce and his companion, Lori Dalley of Vermont and Donald Pierce of Michigan; two sisters, Eileen and Wayne Rockwell of Morrisonville and Diane and Butch Carr of Plattsburgh; one brother, Leon and Shirley Larrabee of Vermont; 18 grandchildren; six great - grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two of her children, Richard and Gladys.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 3, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be conducted by Father Delbel of St. Phillips Church, Monday, March 4, 2002, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Wadhams.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the North Country, 386 Rugar Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, or to the American Cancer Society, 94 E Main St., Malone, NY 12953.

Evelyn M. King

Burke — Evelyn M. King, 64, of the East Road, Burke, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.

She was born in Ellenburg, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1937, the daughter of Patrick and Malena (Trombley) Whalen.

She married Walter King on June 5, 1956, in St. Edmund’s Church, Ellenburg.

Mrs. King is survived by her husband of 45 years; six children and their spouses, Walter P. King of Elira, Ohio, Cathy and Brian Kourofsky of Merrill, N.Y., Daniel and Susie Jones King of Chateaugay, N.Y., Joan and Bryant Dumont of Brainardsville, N.Y., Janie King of Champlain, N.Y., and Dick and Lisa King of West Chazy, N.Y.; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, Herman and Ruth Whalen of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Bernard and Beulah Whalen of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Walter and Frances Whalen of Brainardsville, N.Y., Richard and Mary Dale Whalen of Ellenburg, N.Y., John and Kay Whalen of Merrill, N.Y., and Carl Whalen of Chateaugay; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Wilmer "Bud" Barber of Dannemora; eight grandchildren, Erin Lee Dumont, Kristin Kourofsky, Brian Kourofsky, Hilary Hawksby, Heather Hawksby, Tori Rabideau, Evan King, and Hayden King.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Harold Whalen.

Mrs. King graduated from Ellenburg Central School in Ellenburg. She was a communicant of St. George’s Church, Burke, a member of the Chateaugay American Legion Auxiliary.

She was also an avid lover and breeder of Boston Terriers.

Calling hours will be held at Chateaugay Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Chateaugay American Legion Auxiliary will hold a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Friday evening, March 1, 2002, in St. George’s Church, with Rev. Bill Edwards officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Edmund’s Cemetery, Ellenburg.

Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or The American Cancer Society directed toward Breast Cancer Research.

Howard C. Porter, 80, of Ticonderoga, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, while visiting his daughter in Alabama.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga. A full obituary will appear in tomorrow’s paper.

Kathy R. Wood, 35, of County Route 3, Fort Covington, N.Y., died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 27, 2002, at her home while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.

She was born in Newark, N.Y., Feb. 25, 1967, the daughter of Wallace and Joan "Shorty" (Trimm) Greene.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cappiello - McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Kris Lauzon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring.
