Published 2/28/02Evelyn M. KingBurke — Evelyn M. King, 64, of the East Road, Burke, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Ellenburg, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1937, the daughter of Patrick and Malena (Trombley) Whalen. She married Walter King on June 5, 1956, in St. Edmund’s Church, Ellenburg. Mrs. King is survived by her husband of 45 years; six children and their spouses, Walter P. King of Elira, Ohio, Cathy and Brian Kourofsky of Merrill, N.Y., Daniel and Susie Jones King of Chateaugay, N.Y., Joan and Bryant Dumont of Brainardsville, N.Y., Janie King of Champlain, N.Y., and Dick and Lisa King of West Chazy, N.Y.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman and Ruth Whalen of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Bernard and Beulah Whalen of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Walter and Frances Whalen of Brainardsville, N.Y., Richard and Mary Dale Whalen of Ellenburg, N.Y., and John and Kay Whalen of Merrill, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Erin Lee Dumont, Kristin Kourofsky, Brian Kourofsky, Hilary Hawksby, Heather Hawksby, Tori Rabideau, Evan King, and Hayden King. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Harold Whalen. Mrs. King graduated from Ellenburg Central School in Ellenburg. She was a communicant of St. George’s Church, Burke, a member of the Chateaugay American Legion Auxiliary. She was also an avid lover and breeder of Boston Terriers. Calling hours will be held at Chateaugay Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Chateaugay American Legion Auxiliary will hold a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Friday evening, March 1, 2002, in St. George’s Church, with Rev. Bill Edwards officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Edmund’s Cemetery, Ellenburg. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or The American Cancer Society directed toward Breast Cancer Research. Helen A. SaltmarshAUSABLE FORKS — Helen A. Saltmarsh, 84, of Church Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Plattsburgh. She was born Aug. 12, 1917, in AuSable Forks, the daughter of William and Florence (Dowd) Willis. She was a Gold Star Mother belonging to Post 20, Plattsburgh. Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 504 of AuSable Forks. When her husband became disabled, Helen became a domestic engineer for many households. She also was employed at the Au Sable Forks Bank for 25 years in the above category. She was a member of Holy Name Church, the Altar Rosary Society and the former Catholic Daughters of America 1484 of Au Sable Forks. Helen loved to knit, crochet and play cards. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great - grandmother. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Agnes and John Bombard of AuSable Forks; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Saltmarsh of AuSable Forks, Wayne and Cheryl Saltmarsh and Gary and Mary Saltmarsh all of Wilmington; A brother, William Willis of Plattsburgh and a sister, Katherine Pratt of Albany; eight grandchildren; and seven great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Saltmarsh, whom she married May 12, 1938, at Holy Name Church; her parents; a brother, John Willis; a sister, Elizabeth; and two sons, Jim and Tim Saltmarsh. Calling hours will be Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Church. Edward L. LashwayPlattsburgh — Edward L. "Bucky" Lashway, 71, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Standish on May 12, 1930, the son of Lucius and Stella (Macey) Lashway. He was employed for many years at Murnane Construction in Plattsburgh. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Marie Lashway of Standish; two sisters, Theresa LaDuke of Grand Isle, Vt., and Betty King of Standish; and several nieces and nephews. He resided with his niece, Sandy and Roy Pickering of Clayburg. His wife, Laura (Corrow) Lashway died in 1997. Two sisters, Eleanor Miller and Anna Dubrey; and two brothers, Maynard and Roswell Lashway also died earlier. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. She was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Schroon Lake. Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin Street, Ticonderoga. Barney, 23, of Main Street in Lake Placid, died suddenly Wednesday Morning, Feb. 27, 2002. He was born in Lake Placid Sept. 5, 1978, the son of Susan (Barney) Roberts. Visitation will be Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. Rev. Alan Macnab, rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Au Sable Forks, will officiate. Burial will follow in the North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid. |
