Theodore M. Ruzow

Willsboro, N.Y., and Scottsdale, Ariz. —

Theodore M. Ruzow, a great man, family patriarch and a best friend of the North Country, died suddenly Feb. 22, 2002. He resided in Willsboro, N.Y., and Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1919, in Bronx, N.Y., the eldest son of Rose and Samuel Ruzow. He graduated DeWitt Clinton High School, City College of New York, Fordham and NYU Law Schools, receiving degrees in accounting, law and masters of tax laws.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Renee. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Lillian Ruzow and a brother-in-law, Alfred Rivlin. Mr. Ruzow is survived by his four children, Lawrence A. Ruzow, Esq. of Window Rock, Ariz., Eileen Model (and Michael Model) of Scarsdale, Daniel A. Ruzow, Esq. (and Meris Ruzow) of Clifton Park and Ann Hope Ruzow Holland (and David Holland) of Willsboro Point, N.Y. He is also survived by his seven much loved and celebrated grandchildren, Joshua, Lynn and Jacob Model, Jenny and Benjamin Ruzow and Leslie and Briana Holland.

His career spanned more than 60 years, operating successful law and CPA practices in New York City, Yonkers and Willsboro. He was a resident of the City of Yonkers for 24 years until his move to Willsboro in 1974.

He was always a community leader with a passion for democratic ideals and a strong supporter of preserving the environment, but not at the expense of the common man. He was the Democratic leader of the 8th Ward in the City of Yonkers, Master of Dunwoodie Masonic Lodge 863 in Yonkers, where he was also President of the Board of Trustees of Temple Emanuel. He was also the first non-Navajo member of the Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Commission.

After his move from Yonkers, Mr. Ruzow was appointed to the Adirondack Park Agency by Governor Carey in 1975 and later named chairman until 1983. He spent over 20 years as General Counsel to the Friends of the North Country, Inc. He was also President of his Regime at Scottsdale Shadows. Mr. Ruzow was known for his interest in politics, having made several unsuccessful bids for political office, including the State Assembly and Senate.

He was loved and respected by family, friends and colleagues and known for his compassionate sense of fair play. A true humanitarian and lover of nature. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a devoted tennis player.

A funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 25th, at 1 p.m. at Temple Emanuel, 306 Rumsey Road, Yonkers, N.Y. Burial will be immediately afterward at the Temple Emanuel Section of Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.

Shiva calls can be made at the home of Ann and David Holland, 135 Sabousin Road, Willsboro, N.Y., Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held later in the spring.

Michael G. Rascoe, 53, of Pine Street in Plattsburgh, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Plattsburgh on July 24, 1948, the son of Harry and Mildred Rascoe.

Arrangements are incomplete at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Alice Davis, 79, of Davis Road in Cadyville, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at her home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Cadyville.

Robert Chagnon, 70, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Albany Veterans Hospital in Albany, N.Y.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 22, 1931, the son of Arthur and Hazel (Teboe) Chagnon.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be at a later date in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Nellie V. Schaeffer, 89, of the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete with W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Marcelia "Sis" Feinberg MacDougal, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown.
