Margaret A. Massey

LAKE GEORGE — Margaret A. Massey, of Lake George, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, after a long illness.

Born Feb. 4, 1939, in Ticonderoga, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Church) Fitzgerald, where she grew up on the family farm.

Peg attended Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in Rutland, Vt., Ticonderoga High School and Cornell University Extension.

She spent her life working continuously to meet the needs of her family, never putting her own needs first. She took on every responsibility handed to her and tried her best to meet them.

Peg was very community minded. She worked for many years reaching out to those people who were often passed by but who needed her most. She was very proud of her accomplishments and that these people loved her for herself.

She loved cooking, gardening, canning, comfort food and hanging dozens of clean diapers out on the clothesline every day.

Peg spent countless sleepless nights reading her books. Her favorites were the old wholesome novels where goodness always prevailed. She was never without something to read. She always enjoyed listening to her old time country music.

Her favorite people to be with were babies and old folks.

We all hope she knows now how much she was needed and loved. She wanted that most of all. She will be sorely missed.

Besides her parents, Peg is predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Massey on Nov. 15, 2000, and her very dear son, Robert Massey on Jan. 11, 2002.

Peg is survived by four daughters, Susan Colburn of St. Louis, Mo., Donna Taylor of Lake George, Anne Mills of Glens Falls and Debra Marciano of Lake George; her special granddaughter, Jessica Taylor of Bolton Landing; four sons, Wayne Taylor of Ticonderoga, Kevin Taylor of Castleton, Vt., James Taylor of Crown Point and Paul Taylor of Lake George. Peg also has 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ellen LaBounty of Ticonderoga; and two brothers, Daniel Fitzgerald and Mickey Fitzgerald, both of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by her ex husband, Malcolm Taylor of Crown Point; and her best friend, Rick Terp, who was fortunate to have shared in her life and knew her well.

She always dreamed of being able to fly with the geese. Maybe she’ll get her wish.

Peg, Ma, Gramma - we all hope that now you can finally rest in peace.
