Published 2/16/02Ashley MacDougalWillsboro — Ashley MacDougal, 14, died at her home on Lakeshore Road in Willsboro Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, after a long hard year of battling a rare form of cancer called Rhabdmyosarcoma. She passed on peacefully surrounded by those who cared for her, which included family members and friends. She was born in Plattsburgh Dec. 18, 1987, the second daughter of Gail (Cross) and Fred MacDougal. Ashley was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend. She was an eighth grader at Willsboro Central School. She was a good student and really loved school. She would have made a great teacher. In her spare time she took much pride in helping out her younger cousins Clayton and Lucas Cross. They were like the younger brothers she never had. Ashley loved sports. In school she played soccer, basketball and softball. She also loved bowling and had won several trophies. She was a good team player and loved her coaches and teammates as much as she loved the game. Shortly before she died Ashley was able to fulfill her Make - a - Wish. On a four day trip to New York City she went to the Rosie Show and met Rosie O’Donnell. She had the time of her life while she was there with her family. In her spare time Ashley loved to be surrounded by her friends. She loved to listen to music, play with her dogs, go swimming, and make silly movies with her friends. Even when she was sick and going through all of the treatments she made the most of every day. Ashley Anne has affected so many lives in so many ways. She was a friend to all who knew her. Her big blue eyes and bright, loving smile were enough to turn even the worst of days into good ones. She is an inspiration and hero to all. She has left footprints on the hearts and souls of all who knew her. Footprints that will never disappear. She is survived by her parents, Fred and Gail; her older sister, Dana and her younger sister, Whitney both of Willsboro. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother, Margaret MacDougal of Essex and her maternal grandparents of Willsboro, Charles and Marie Cross; best friends, Lucas Pierce and Deanna Marcotte; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at The Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro, N.Y. Evelyn R. ConnellyWestport — Evelyn R. Connelly, 95, beloved mother of Lynn (Nigel Frawley), died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown. Evelyn was predeceased by her husbands, Desmond Weir of Montreal, and John E. Connelly, Jr. of New York. Survivors also include five grandchildren, Chris Grivakes (Nina), Stephen Grivakes, Barbara Mitchell (Tim), Alexa Grivakes and Thea Moulton (Scott); four great-grandchildren, Lena and Maggie Grivakes and Phoebe and Celia Mitchell; and three stepchildren, Guy Connelly, Susan Painter and John Connelly III. The family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinarily sensitive and loving care that Evelyn received in Unit 3 at Horace Nye Nursing Home. We thank you. A celebration of Ev’s life will take place Saturday, March 9, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepard in Elizabethtown, with Rev. Ted Monica, rector, officiating. Amos, 83, formally of Lumber Street, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Heartland Nursing Home in West Bloomfield, Mich. He was born in Frankfort, Ind., on April 16, 1918, the son of Nelson and Ruth (Hendricks) Amos. Carl and Eleanor Amos were married by Eleanor’s father, the Rev. Cornelius Otto on July 22, 1948, in Waterville, Maine. The family lived on Court Street in Plattsburgh while Carl was stationed at the Air Force Base from 1957 to 1961. They returned to Plattsburgh Air Force Base in 1972 and Carl retired the next year as a lieutenant colonel and moved to Port Kent. Eleanor died on April 1, 2000, and Carl moved to a nursing home near their son. Carl had a long career in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Air Force, serving in Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific during World War II and Florida, Alabama, New York, Texas, California and North Dakota as an officer in the Strategic Air Command. While serving in the Pacific, Carl’s aircrew logged more hours over Japan than any other allied crew in the war. His SAC service Included command of a Titan 1 missile complex in California and command of the missile wing command post in North Dakota. Mr. Amos was a member of the Peru Community Church and enjoyed reading, gardening and listening to classical music. Survivors include one son, David Amos and his wife, Jacqueline of Farmington Hills, Mich.; one daughter, Deborah Amos, MD and her husband, Philip Cohen of Anacortes, Wash.; four grandchildren, Rebekah Amos of Hoboken, N.J., Amanda Amos of Charlotte, N.C., and Roslyn and Benjamin Cohen of Anacortes, Wash. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Peru Community Church. Burial will be in the Port Kent Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Peru Community Church Memorial Fund. John L. RichardsCOXSACKIE — John L. Richards, 96, formerly of Pleasant Street in AuSable Forks, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. For several years he has made his home with his daughter, Sarah in Coxsackie. He was born in AuSable Forks, Feb. 16, 1905, the son of Isiah and Alice (McFarland) Richards. John attended AuSable Forks Central Rural Schools. He was boss of the finishing room of the J.&J. Rogers Co., Paper Mill in AuSable Forks for 46 years. John was a member of the AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He also was a trustee of the Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks. John operated the Richards Insurance Agency in AuSable Forks for 50 years. He was also employed as a ticket salesman at the Whiteface Ski Center in Wilmington until he retired. John is survived by a daughter, Sarah Richards of Coxsackie. His wife, Margaret (Burke) Richards died Dec. 20, 1988. A brother, Sherman Richards also predeceased him. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at the Holy Name Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in the family plot at the parish cemetery. Hurlburt, 86, formerly of High Street in Ticonderoga, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Indian River Nursing Home in Granville. She was born in Ticonderoga on Aug. 9, 1915, the daughter of Benjamin and Elsie (Laro) Stott. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 8 p.m., with the Deacon Elliot Shaw of St. Mary’s Parish in Ticonderoga officiating. Burial will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery in Ticonderoga in the spring. Edna A. Reyell, 81, of O’Neill Road, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Beekmantown on May 10, 1920, the daughter of Israel and Delima (Bourdon) Favreau. Arrangements are incomplete at this time with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. NORMAND SOLOMON "BABE’ CHIASSON, 64, of Becky Avenue in Tupper Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake, where he had resided since Sept. of 1995. He was born Dec. 16, 1937, the son of George Joseph and Rita Blanche (Poirier) Chiasson. Friends may call on Sunday evening, Feb. 17, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. An Honor Guard service will he held following Mass. |
