He was born in Riverview, N.Y., on Jan. 25, 1925, the son of John and Evelyn (Charbonneau) Amell. He married the former Beatrice Skiff at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale in 1946. Robert, known to everyone as "Pete," worked very hard all of his life as a truck driver. After retiring from X-Plo in 1992, he worked for his son Sherman at Hamel Snacks, a job that he enjoyed very much. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beatrice; three sons, Gary Hamel and his wife Linda of Plattsburgh, Sherman Hamel and his wife Donna of Morrisonville and Ronnie Hamel and his wife Lindsay of Willsboro; three daughters, Diana Riker and her husband Kevin of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Roberta Taylor of Clarksville, Tenn., and Pamela Wood and her husband Todd of Redford; one brother, Clifford Amell and his wife Mary of Green, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Mabel Fitzgerald, Beatrice Hoyte, Minwella Kline and Betty Smith; and two brothers, Henry Hamel and Lawrence Amell. There will be no public calling hours or funeral services. Arrangements are by the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Gladys F. MitchellPLATTSBURGH — Gladys F. Mitchell, 80, formerly of Chester, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was born in Reading, Pa., on Aug. 17, 1921, the daughter of Harry A. and H. Beulah (Huyett) Foreman. Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Reading High School in 1939 and McCann Business School in Reading, Pa. She married Rev. John S. Mitchell at the Church of the Nazarene in Seat Pleasant, Md., on Nov. 1, 1944, and was his companion in ministry first in Westminister, Md., then Lancaster, Pa., and finally in McConnellstown, Pa., where he retired from full-time ministry. They then moved to Chester, Pa., where she worked as a secretary for the Swarthmore United Methodist Church for 20 years. In 1995 they moved to Plattsburgh to be near family. Mrs. Mitchell taught Sunday school for 52 years. She enjoyed handicrafts, gardening, cooking and volunteered her time to many organizations. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Rev. John S. Mitchell; two daughters, Janice Lashua and her husband Raymond M. of Rindge, N.H., and Marcia Peck and her husband Dana of Plattsburgh; and two grandchildren, Evan Peck and Kayla Peck, both of Plattsburgh. Her sister, Dorothy Foreman, died in 1981. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Birdsboro Cemetery in Birdsboro, Pa. LaBarge, 80, of White Road in Mooers Forks, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Altona, N.Y., on March 10, 1921, son of the late Frank and Annie (Bushey) LaBarge. He enjoyed playing music. He was also an avid hunter. He attended Holy Angels Church in Altona. He is survived by six sons and four daughters-in-law, John and JoAnne LaBarge of Chazy, Carl LaBarge of Mooers Forks, Raymond and Mary LaBarge of Ellenburg, Scott and Tracy LaBarge of West Chazy, Keith LaBarge of Altona and Earl and Sara LaBarge of Ellenburg; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Alverda and George Seymour of Fort Lee, Va., JoAnn and Leon Seymour of West Chazy, Linda Brown of Rouses Point and Shelly and Steven Slocum of Wingdale, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Alden and Leah LaBarge of Ellenburg; a sister, Viola Warren of Moira; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Andrew ElmerCHATEAUGAY, N.Y. — Andrew Elmer, 10, of the Ryan Road in Chateaugay, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at his home, after a lengthy illness under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Malone, N.Y., on Dec. 17, 1991, the son of Timothy and Angela (Yaddow) Elmer. They survive. Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Christopher Elmer, 13; two sisters, Melissa Elmer, 15 and Amanda Elmer, 16, all of Chateaugay, N.Y.; his grandmother, Ruth Elmer of Massena, N.Y.; a stepgrandmother, Gladys Yaddow of Fort Covington, N.Y.; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Philip Elmer, in 1983; his maternal grandmother, Kathleen Yaddow, in 1994; and his maternal grandfather, Howard Yaddow, in 1999. Andrew was a third grade student at Northern Adirondack Central School. He was an avid Scooby Doo fan and owned many of the Scooby Doo items. He was also a recent recipient of the Make-a-Wish Foundation in which the foundation provided him with a computer and had his bedroom redecorated in the Scooby Doo theme. Margaret Evelyn KlinkESSEX — Margaret Evelyn Klink, 69, of Lakeshore Road in Essex, formerly of Bethlehem, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at her home in Essex. She was born July 9, 1933, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Fredrick and Martha (Schmid) Kobel. Mrs. Klink graduated from Buffalo State Teacher’s College and taught home economics at Orchard Park Sr. High School, in Orchard Park, N.Y. She was a member of the Essex Community Church, the Council on Ministeries, the renovation committee, The Elizabethtown Westport Garden Club, The Women’s International Red Hat Society, The Essex Co. Republican Women’s Organization, United Methodist Women’s Assoc., Adirondacks Spinners Guild and a board member of the Belden-Nobel Library in Essex, N.Y. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Klink of Essex; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn L. and Walter Rampacher of Coopersburgh, Pa.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Bruce D. and Cheryl Klink of Matthews, N.C., and Dr. David F. and Debbie Klink of Ijamsville, Md.; a sister, Ruth Downey of Williamsville, N.Y.; two brothers, Elmar Kobel of Boca Raton, Fla., Fred Kobel of West Seneca, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Lauren and Matthew Rampacher, Rachel and Emily Klink and Adam, Elyse, and Miranda Klink. DeveauGwinn, Mich. — Sandra "Sandi" L. Deveau, 53, of North Maple Hill Drive, Gwinn, Mich., died unexpectedly Friday morning, Feb. 1, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Deveau was born on Feb. 4, 1948, at Plattsburgh, N.Y., and had lived in this area since 1988. She was a member of the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Sandi is survived by her husband, Bob Deveau, whom she married on Dec. 21, 1974, in New York; two children, Kelly Deveau of Gwinn and Ed "Joe" Deveau and his fianceé Amy Wellington of Gwinn; her mother, Gertrude St. Clair of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; eight sisters and brothers, Steve (Lucy) St. Clair, Norm St. Clair, Ricky (Rita) St. Clair, John (Peggy) St. Clair, Wayne (Bonnie) St. Clair, Mike St. Clair, Shelly St. Clair and Cindy St. Clair, all of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur St. Clair. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in the Gwinn Funeral Home, 96 E. Stephenson Ave., Gwinn, Mich., from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with the Rev. Ronald Timock of St. Anthony Catholic Church officiating.
