Leo Bourey

Lyon Mountain — Mr. Leo Bourey of Lyon Mountain, son of the late Margaret and Joseph Bourey, passed away in his home January 21, 2002 surrounded by his beloved family.

Born on June 5, 1921, in Standish, he attended Lyon Mountain High School.

Following graduation he entered the U.S. Army Air Corp. and served his country from 1942 to 1946. He began his service duties by playing trumpet in a military dance band to raise money for the war effort. He attended aircraft mechanics school and concluded his tour of duty in the Pacific, where his team worked on the Enola Gay in preparation for its historical mission over Hiroshima.

Discharged in 1946 having achieved the rank of sergeant, he was employed by the Republic Steel Co. in Lyon Mountain. He was also a Metropolitan Life Insurance Agent for a number of years and was self-employed at Clayburg Grocery, until his retirement in 1978.

He was a charter member of the Sorrell-Woodward Post 1623, where he participated for many years on the firing squad and house committee. He served as post commander and the county commander. He was founding member of the Saranac Fire Station No. 3 and served as fire chief and fire commissioner. He belonged to the Lyon Mt. Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Peru.

He was an active member of the community and the parish of St. Michael’s in Standish and St. Bernard’s in Lyon Mountain.

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Mary (Waldron) Bourey and five of his six children, Nancy Bourey of Victoria, B.C., Canada, George Bourey of Keeseville, Mary Kelly of Hopewell Junction, Elizabeth "Betty" Facteau of Standish and Patrick Bourey of Buffalo. His son, Donald predeceased him in 1987. He had 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four of his nine siblings, Margaret Kaska, Helen Bourey and Arthur Bourey, all of Plattsburgh and Elaine Norwalk of Ormond Beach, Florida. He was predeceased by five brothers and sisters, Agnes Robinson of Moriah, Francis Bourey of Rochester and Eva, Blanche and Clifford who died as infants during the flu epidemic of the early 1900’s.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Lyon Mountain. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Standish.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leo’s name to the Lyon Mountain Rescue Squad and the Hospice of the North Country.

Arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Geraldine S. Rounds

Geraldine S. Rounds, 84, of Third Street in Lyon Mountain, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was born in Ellenburg, N.Y., on Sept. 26, 1917, the daughter of Herbert and Sadie (King) Benware.

She was married to Leonard "Teddy" Rounds on Oct. 10, 1936, in St. Bernard’s Convent in Lyon Mountain. He predeceased her on Sept. 23, 1988.

Mrs. Rounds is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Margo Rounds of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., Carlton and Ann Rounds of Lyon Mountain, N.Y.; six grandchildren and their spouses, Tim and Mary Rounds, Brian and Laura Gokey, Robert and Heidi Ouimet, Carlton Rounds, Jody Rounds and Genessa Rounds; two step-grandchildren and their spouses, Henry and Monica Venne and James and Erika Harrigan; nine great - grandchildren, Kathryn Rounds, Sara Rounds, Emily Rounds, Samantha Rounds, Roseanna Rounds, Parker Decosse, Paige Decosse, Brett Ouimet and Chelsea Ouimet; and three step great - grandchildren, Michael Gokey, Rachael Venne and Adam Venne.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Ryan Decosse; three brothers, Clifton "Buck" Benware, John Benware, and Richard Benware.

Mrs. Rounds was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain and a 51 year member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Daughters.

She was also a member of the Lyon Mountain American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Rounds enjoyed sewing and loved to go bowling and snowmobiling. She devoted her life to her family.

Calling hours will be held at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23, 2002, in St. Bernard’s Church, with Msgr. Bernard Christman officiating. Burial will take place in the Spring at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Lyon Mountain.

Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Helen F. "Sis" McDonald

PORT HENRY, N.Y. —

Helen F. "Sis" McDonald, 68, of Joiner Road in Port Henry, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

She was born at Port Henry, N.Y., on June 5, 1933, the daughter of Thomas W. and Helen (Callanan) McDonald.

Helen graduated from Kenwood Academy and The College of St. Rose, and received her masters degree in social services at Syracuse University.

She worked at St. Anne’s in Troy, N.Y., at Essex County Children’s Service, and served as Essex County Director of Mental Health. She retired from County Services in 1994.

She is president of Sherman Free Library, past member and president of Moriah Central School Board of Education, member of Essex County ARC Board of Directors, past member of Elizabethtown Community Hospital Board of Directors, and a former trustee of St. Patrick's Church, Port Henry. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Town of Moriah Country Club.

She is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Anne McDonald, Ticonderoga, N.Y., Michael and Mary McDonald, New Hartford, N.Y., and Thomas and Carol McDonald, Port Henry, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Port Henry, N.Y., with Rev. Michael Toth officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations in Helen's memory may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Mineville, NY or The Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.

Pamela L. LaFountain

NORTH CLARENDON, Vt. —Pamela L. LaFountain, 42, of Cold River Road, North Clarendon, Vt., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Pam vas born Jan. 25, 1959 at Shoreham, Vt., the daughter of Orrin and Veda (Peletier) Williams.

She is survived by her husband, David LaFountain of North Clarendon,Vt.; her son, Seth LaFountain of North Clarendon, Vt.; her sister and brother-in-law, Julie and John Budwick of Crown Point; her brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Dolores Williams of Crown Point; her brother, Kevin Williams of Ausable, N.Y.; her maternal grandmother, Auretta Williams of Crown Point; her stepfather, Donald Burrell of Ausable, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews

Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Eric and Burton Williams

Calling hours will be Wed. January 23, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Crown Point, N.Y.

Victor H. Forcet Sr., 67, of Beekman Towers, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Trinidad on Oct. 26, 1934.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. from the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Following cremation, burial will be later in the year.

 

Eunice Stehl, 85, of Shepard Street in Saranac Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

She was born in Ellenburgh, N.Y., on Jan. 7, 1917, the daughter of Arthur and Gertrude (Emmerson) Cashman.

There will be no calling hours. The family will hold a private funeral service. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Ellenburg Depot, NY.

Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. in Saranac Lake, N.Y., is in charge of arrangements.

 

Emile L. Carpentier, 93, formerly of Rt. 3 in Cadyville, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

He was born in LaColle, Quebec, on Dec. 19, 1908, the son of Joseph A. and Georgianna (Lancault) Carpentier.

Calling hours and funeral services are incomplete at this time with the R. W Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
