William M. LaHendro

Moriah — William M. LaHendro, 83, of Fisk Road in Moriah, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Mineville, N.Y., the son of Michael and Mary (Kowalczyk) LaHendro.

He is a Veteran of World War II.

Mr. LaHendro is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Mike Badger of Moriah; two sons, Bruce LaHendro of Mineville and William LaHendro of Haines City, Fla.; two brothers, Frank LaHendro of Mineville and John LaHendro of Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Zelinski and Frances Baldwin both of Witherbee; 10 grandchildren and 7 great - grandchildren.

His wife, Madeline died Dec. 5, 1994. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Anthony and Joseph LaHendro.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville, with Father Michael Toth officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in the Spring.

Memorial donations can be made in William’s name to High Peaks Hospice in Mineville or to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad, Moriah, NY.

Charlotte E. Barry

MORRISONVILLE — Charlotte E. Barry, 80, of the Sand Road, died Friday, Jan. l8, 2002, at her home, where she was surrounded by her family, friends and Hospice workers.

Mrs. Barry was born in Saranac on Oct. 6, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Sophia (Collins) Cromie.

She married Frank Barry, from Willsboro, on Nov. 11, 1950, at the Saranac United Methodist Church. Frank died in May 1964.

Mrs. Barry was a member of the Saranac United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Association and a former member of the Peru Senior Citizens.

She was a cafeteria worker at Saranac Central School for over 20 years, retiring in 1988. Mrs. Barry then worked at the Peru Nutritional Site retiring in January 2001.

She enjoyed people, dancing and many types of music.

Survivors include two sons, Michael F. Barry and Gary Barry and his wife, Tara all of Morrisonville; three daughters, Charlene Wood, Donna Fountain and her husband, Roy all of Plattsburgh and Susan Facteau and her husband, Tony of Saranac; one brother, Harold Cromie and his wife, Ruby of Saranac; 13 grandchildren; one great - grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

One brother, Claude Cromie died in 1982.

Calling, hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Saranac United Methodist Church.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Saranac United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of the North Country.

Stearns David Walker

Franklin Falls — Stearns David Walker, 65, of Franklin Falls, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at home with his family.

He was born in Elizabethtown, N.Y., on July 28, 1936, the son of Stearns David and Joyce (Baker) Walker Sr.

Mr. Walker had been a resident of the area for most of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Korea from January 1955 until January 1959.

He received his federal mechanics license from the Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute in Miami, Fla., and was employed as a licensed aircraft mechanic for United Airlines for 10 years in New York City and San Francisco. He was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections for 20 years, retiring in 1994 as a sergeant.

He enjoyed scuba diving, flying, sailing, motorcycling, snowmobiling and four wheeling. He and his wife, Pat enjoyed traveling all over the United States.

He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Wallace, whom he married May 23, 1959; two sons, David Stearns Walker of Lake Clear, N.Y., and Scott Thomas Walker of Saranac Lake, N.Y.,; three brothers, Donald, James and Gregory; and two sisters, Marylyn and Gloria; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stearns David Walker Sr., and his mother, Joyce Baker Walker.

There will be no calling hours. The interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Friends wishing to remember Mr. Walker may make memorial contributions to Saranac Lake Vol. Fire Dept. Rescue Squad or High Peaks Hospice in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, NY.

James Leroy Fraughton

MALONE — James Leroy Fraughton, 106, of Academy Street in Malone, N.Y., died Jan. 18, 2002, after a short illness,

He was born in Malone, Aug. 24, 1895, the son of John Joseph and Ida (Pruner) Fraughton. He attended local schools.

He worked for the New York Central R.R. for 48 years. Starting in 1915, he was a station agent at Lake Clear, Kushaqua, Hinkley, Malone and Fort Covington. He was chairman of order of Railroad Telegraphers for 35 years and retired in 1963.

He owned and operated Taylor City Laundry on Academy Street from 1931 until 1961. For the next 35 years, he worked as a court officer for Franklin County.

On June 1, 1920, he was married to the former Jessie Taylor, who died in 1970.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Malone. He was a 70 year member of the Malone Kiwanis Club, holding many offices; president in 1939 and in 1941 he was elected district lieutenant-governor. He was a 79 year member of Northern Constellation Lodge No. 291, F. & A.M., Malone Lodge of Elks, No. 1303 since 1918.

Roy is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Merritt (Joan) Spear of Peru, N.Y., and Mrs. John (Norma) Tietjen of Petersburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, James Fraughton, Geoffrey Spear, Stephanie Spear, Dr. Alison Spear, Jennifer Tompkins, Patricia Demont and Donna Tietjen; nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ian and Samantha Spear, Jordan, Max and Luke Tompkins, Jennifer and Christopher Fraughton, Lisa Demont; and one nephew, Howard Taylor.

He is predeceased by his wife, Jessie of 50 years; one son, Robert W. Fraughton in 1987; a daughter-in-law, Gladys (Paro) Fraughton in 1998; a grandson, John R. Tietjen Jr. in 1995; a niece, Elinor Taylor; and a sister, Irene.

There will be no calling hours. There will be a graveside service at a later date for family and friends, with the Reverend Robert Svenson, assistant pastor of Peru Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Eileen C. McArdle

Chateaugay — Eileen C. McArdle, 88, of Church Street in Chateaugay, died Jan. 17, 2002, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y., with her family by her side.

She was born on May 6, 1913, on the Campbell Road in the Town of Clinton, N.Y., the daughter of James and Mary (Young) Campbell.

She married to Henry McArdle on May 7, 1941, in St. Patrick’s Church in Chateaugay by Rev. James McClure. Henry predeceased her on Jan. 23, 1963.

Eileen is survived by one son, James McArdle of Plattsburgh; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Patricia McArdle of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Helen and Joseph Mahoney of Fairport, N.Y.; two grandsons, Matthew McArdle of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Christian Mahoney of Washington, D.C.; two granddaughters, Kathleen Mahoney of Watertown, Mass., and Karie Mahoney of Fairport, N.Y. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Bernard and Joanna Campbell of Burlington, Vt., Thomas and Muriel Campbell of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Carolyn Campbell of Chateaugay Lake; and several nieces and nephews

She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Harold and James Campbell; three sisters, Anna Campbell, Nora Harrica, and Mary Foran; and two brothers in infancy.

Mrs. McArdle graduated from Chateaugay High School in 1931 and Chateaugay Teachers Training Class in 1932. She went on to Plattsburgh Normal School where she earned her teaching certificate in 1935 and her bachelor’s degree in 1962. She taught in rural schools in the Chateaugay area until her marriage, when she left teaching until 1956 and returned to the Malone School District, where she taught at Flander’s School until her retirement in 1973.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and was a past member of St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society.

Mrs. McArdle also belonged to the New York State Retired Teachers. She enjoyed reading, knitting, walking and keeping abreast of politics and current events. Her favorite times where those spent with her children and grandchildren to whom her life was devoted.

Calling hours will be at the Chateaugay Funeral Home, Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in St. Patrick’s Church, with Rev. Fay Ager officiating. Burial will take place in the Spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chateaugay.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Alice Hyde Medical Center, St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund or the Chateaugay Memorial Library.

Genevieve V. LeBlanc

PLATTSBURGH — Genevieve V. LeBlanc, 90, formerly of LeBlanc Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on May 15, 1911, the daughter of John and Josephine (LaGoy) Lawliss.

Genevieve married Charles LeBlanc Sr. on Dec. 16, 1929, in Plattsburgh. Mr. LeBlanc died on March 29, 1989.

She was a member of the Our Lady of Victory Alter Rosary, the Ladies of the Elks, and the Bridge Club.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Neta LeBlanc of Plattsburgh; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marie and Dewey Frederick of West Chazy, and Eleanor Manor Franklin of Seattle, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Dora Lawliss of West Chazy; nine grandchildren; 19 great - grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one son, Chuck LeBlanc; one daughter, Joanne Helmer; three brothers, Oswald, Bernard and Richard; and six sisters, Lena, Agnus, Frances, Gladys, Ruth, and Rita.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at noon in Our Lady of Victory Church. Burial will take place in the Spring in St. Alexander’s Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Mickey LeVigne Scholarship Fund, or Our Lady of Victory Church.

BENJAMIN N. SUPER-NAULT, 75, of Pine Street in Malone, N.Y., was pronounced dead Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Malone, N.Y., the son of Napoleon and Ruby (King) Supernault.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Spring burial will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery.
