Frederick "Fred" G. LaVigne

CUMBERLAND HEAD — Frederick "Fred" G. LaVigne, 80, of Cumberland Head Road, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

He was born in Chazy on Dec. 7, 1921, the son of Frederick S. and Jennie (Toussaint) LaVigne.

Mr. LaVigne married the former Gloria Stetz at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh on Oct. 12, 1947.

He was a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church and also a life member of American Legion Post 20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125 both in Plattsburgh.

Mr. LaVigne was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in the African and European Theatres.

Following the war, he joined the Department of Corrections and was a corrections officer for 28 years, retiring from the Dannemora State Hospital in 1975.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Janis Hoy and her husband, Ronald of Cumberland Head; one sister, Velma Locklin of Cumberland Head; three grandchildren, Jeremy Hoy and his wife, Peggy of Crown Point and Ryan and Ron Hoy both of Cumberland Head; one aunt, Helen Hines of Swanton, Vt.; two brothers-in-law, William Stetz and his wife, Shirley of Plattsburgh and George Stetz and his wife, Sandy of Kinderhook, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Helen Dadouses of Flushing, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Members of the VFW Post 125 and American Legion Post 20 will meet Sunday evening at 7 p.m. for services.

Charlene Postiglione

WILMINGTON — Charlene Postiglione, 40, of Route 86 in Wilmington, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at the Adirondack Medical Center Emergency Room in Lake Placid.

She was born April 8, 1961, in Ballston Spa, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Clara (Sanders) Johnson.

Charlene was a registered CAN employed at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

She was a dealer for Avon and Tupperware and a loving wife, mother and friend to all, always ready to help anyone in their time of need.

Charlene is survived by her husband, John Postiglione of Wilmington, whom she married May 2, 1981, in Jay and they renewed their marriage vows on January 14, 2002, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, pastor officiating was Rev. Marty Bausman; two sons; John Jr. of Fort Benning, Ga., and Justin C. of Wilmington; three sisters, Christine Halter of Ballston Spa, Darlene Thornton and Linda Brewer both of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents and a great niece predeceased her.

Calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marty Bausman, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Wilmington, officiating. Burial will follow at the Haselton Cemetery in Wilmington.

Memorials to her may be made to the Wilmington Fire and Rescue Service, Wilmington, N.Y. 12997. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

William M. LaHendro

Moriah — William M. LaHendro, 83, of Fisk Road in Moriah, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Mineville, N.Y., the son of Michael and Mary (Kowalczyk) LaHendro.

He is a Veteran of World War II.

Mr. LaHendro is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Badger of Moriah; two sons, Bruce LaHendro of Mineville and William LaHendro of Haines City, Fla.; two brothers, Frank LaHendro of Mineville and John LaHendro of Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Zelinski and Frances Baldwin both of Witherbee; 10 grandchildren and 7 great - grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville, with Father Michael Toth officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in the Spring.

Memorial donations can be made in William’s name to High Peaks Hospice in Mineville or to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad, Moriah, NY.

Leo Hamel

SWAMPSCOTT, MASS. — Mr. Leo Hamel, 60, of Swampscott, Mass., and formerly of Worcester, Mass., and Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his home after a battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palay.

He was born in Riverview, N.Y., the son of the late Francis and Alvina Hamel.

He graduated from Mt. Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and attended New England College in Henniker, N.H. He lived in Swampscott since 1972.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam conflict.

He worked in the automobile industry for 37 years, working at several dealerships and owned Marshall Pontiac and Nissan in Saugus. He was also involved with real estate and development.

He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott.

Mr. Hamel leaves his companion, Patti Ryan; a daughter, Lynmarie Hamel of Ohio; two sons, Darren Hamel of Florida and Christopher Hamel of Washington; his siblings, Veronica Hamel, Galen Hamel and Madelyn L’Heureux all of New York and Joyce Williams of Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Roger Francis, Gail Hamel, Carol Siskavich and Bertha Bennett.

The funeral will be held from the Solomine Landergran and Rhodes Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St., Lynn, Mass., on Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery.

Richard D. Hagar, 84, of W. Springfield, Mass., and formerly of Cumberland Head died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in Holyoke, Mass.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete as of Thursday evening at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Brian Keith Doan, 24, of San Francisco, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002.

He was born in Rutland, Vt., on Aug. 2, 1977, the son of Brian Edwin Doan and Melody Lynn Thompson.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel in Plattsburgh. Interment will be later in the year in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Agnes E. LaTulipe, 72, of County Route 42 in Fort Covington, N.Y., died Wednesday evening, Jan. 16, 2002, at the Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, N.Y. She had been a patient there since Jan. 3, 2002.

She was born in Fort Covington, March 8, 1929, the daughter of the late Louis and Agnes (Putraw) Shatlaw Sr.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Kris Lauzon officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are through the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington.

ETHEL DAVIS, 99, of Lavalley Road in Mooers, N.Y., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at the Hospice of the Treasure Coast in Lake Worth.

She was born in Hemmingford, Quebec, on Nov. 7, 1902, the daughter of Moses and Lucy Ann (Lockhart) English.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Mooers in the Spring. Arrangements are incomplete.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of local arrangements.
