Richard I. Pulsifer

LEWIS, N.Y. — Richard I. Pulsifer, 83, of the Moss Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at his home in Lewis.

He was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Lewis, the son of Irvin and Jennie (Patnode) Pulsifer.

Dick was a self employed truck driver for 43 years. He also was employed for five years at the J. & J. Rogers Papermill in AuSable Forks.

Veteran of World War II, serving in Sq A., 1076th U.S. AF BU.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, playing horseshoes and cards. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, raising horses for logging jobs and family get togethers and listening to country music.

Survived by four sons, Art Pulsifer of AuSable Forks, John Pulsifer of Elizabethtown, William Pulsifer of Lewis and Robert Pulsifer of Morrisonville; two daughters, Diane Stetson of Keeseville and Donna Landon of Lewis; a brother, Donald Pulsifer; 26 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

The following predeceased him, his wife, Vivian B. (Joy) Pulsifer; two sons, Carl Pulsifer and Thomas Pulsifer; two brothers, Fred and Phillip Pulsifer; and three sisters, Anna Keese, Edith Kilburn and Hattie Mitchell.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in Au Sable Forks. Funeral services will be Friday Morning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow and burial will be at a later date in the family plot in Deershead Cemetery.

Memorials to his name may be made to a charity of your choice.

Gordon W. Gay

REBER — Gordon W. Gay, 59, of Mountain View Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at his home.

He was born June 24, 1942, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of Robert and Evelyn (Howard) Gay.

Gordon worked as a heavy equipment operator for Lakeview Excavating and Sheehan and Sons for many years.

He was a member of the Willsboro-Reber Fire Department, American Legion, Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was an avid hunter, bowler and softball player

He is survived by his wife, June (Sayward) Gay of Reber; his children, Michael, Lori and Kevin Gay; his parents, Robert and Evelyn Gay of Willsboro; two brothers, Raymond Gay of Essex and Otis Gay of Willsboro; one sister, Eva Cross of Willsboro; his granddaughter, Maggie; and several aunts uncles nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Robert H. and Charles died before him.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, by Reverend Fred Shaw at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home.

David Smith

WALLINGFORD, CONN. —David Smith, 52, of Woodhouse Avenue in Wallingford, Conn., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, in his home.

He was the beloved husband of Karin Smith.

He was born in Meriden, Sept. 7, 1949, a son of the late Joseph and Nettie (Herrmann) Smith.

He had been a resident of Barre, Vt., for 2 years and had lived in Plattsburgh, N.Y. for nine years before moving to Wallingford a year ago.

When he lived in Plattsburgh, he had been the manager of Wheel Discount Auto, Parts America, and Advance Auto.

Mr. Smith had served as a logistics expert for the U.S. Air Force for 22 years before his retirement in 1990, with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Besides his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Michael Kosellek of Wallingford; his beloved German shepherd, Arko; his daughter, Kimberly Smith; his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Jerry Dion of Meriden; his brother, James Smith of Wallingford; his sisters-in-law and their spouses, Ute and Heinz Pfaff, Heike and Peter Hinz, Edith and Egon Kuss and Elke and Hansjorg Saile and Linda Smith; his former sisters-in-law, Terry Butterworth and Connie Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Smith.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home, with the Rev. Karen Cook, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford, officiating. Interment, with military honors will be in the State Veteran Cemetery in Middletown.

Edward A. Martin

TUPPER LAKE --- Edward A. Martin, 76, of Lake Street in Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

He was born in Tupper Lake on April 11, 1925, the son of Henry Hermas and Marie Bernadette LaBrecque Martin.

He attended Holy Ghost Academy and graduated with the Class of 1943.

Eddie attended Alfred University until his enlistment with the he U.S. Marines. An aircraft mechanic during his tour of duty in the Philippines, he was proud of his service during World War II.

On July 19, 1949, he and the former Simone Anne Paicment were married in the Holy Name Church by Father Finnegan.

Eddie worked with his father and uncles of Martin Bros. Grocers and then ran the Park St. Esso. A lumberjack by trade , he was also noted for ice, wood and worm vending at Fish Creek and Rollin's Pond. More recently a caretaker on Big Wolf, he and Simone maintained a campfire business wood business on Lake Street.

Along with his love of family, he also loved to hunt and fish.

Eddie was a founding member of the Mohegan Pond Club and was especially fond of the River Ridge area. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Old Timers and Martin Bros. Hunting Club.

Cribbage and visiting family across the United States were favorite pastimes. Eddie felt he was the luckiest of men to live and raise his family in Tupper Lake. He always had a story to tell.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Simone; six sons, Robert of Florida, Thomas and his wife, Sun of Jupiter, Fla., Joseph and his wife, Hazel of Jupiter, Fla., Raymond and his wife, Lori of Tupper Lake, Richard and his wife, Diane of Tupper Lake and Edward and his wife, Dawn of Lake Park, Fla.; three daughters, Anne and her husband, Paul Shanahan of Lake Forest, Calif., Jean and her husband, Charles Daigle of Las Vegas, Nev., and Rebecca and her husband, George Clark of Hartford, Conn.; Also 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; one brother, John Martin of Warren, Ill., and one sister, Theresa Beasoliel of Wayne, N.J.

He was predeceased by one son, Henry (Hanky) in 1967.

Calling hours for Mr. Martin will be held at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m., with Father Donald Kramberg officiating. An honor guard service will follow at the funeral home.

Leo Hamel

SWAMPSCOTT, MASS. — Mr. Leo Hamel, 60, of Swampscott, Mass., and formerly of Worcester, Mass., and Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his home after a battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palay.

He was born in Riverview, N.Y., the son of the late Francis and Alvina Hamel.

He graduated from Mr. Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and attended New England College in Henniker, N.H. He lived in Swampscott since 1972.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam conflict.

He worked in the automobile industry for 37 years, working at several dealerships and owned Marshall Pontiac and Nissan in Saugus. He was also involved with real estate and development.

He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott.

Mr. Hamel leaves his companion, Patti Ryan; a daughter, Lynmarie Hamel of Ohio; two sons, Darren Hamel of Florida and Christopher Hamel of Washington; his siblings, Veronica Hamel, Galen Hamel and Madelyn L’Heureux all of New York and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Roger Francis, Gail Hamel, Carol Siskavich and Bertha Bennett.

The funeral will be held from the Solomine Landergran and Rhodes Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St., Lynn, Mass., on Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery.

Donna M. Provost

West Chazy — Mrs. Donna M. Provost, 45, of the Stratton Hill Road, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at her home.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 13, 1956, the daughter of Benjamin and Lorraine (Senecal) Szablewski.

She had worked at Grand Union for many years.

Donna enjoyed bingo, gardening and spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy.

Donna is survived by her husband of 13 years, Mark A. Provost of West Chazy; a son, Nicholas Provost and a daughter, Carleen Provost at home; a brother and a sister-in-law, Clifford "Chuck" and Abbe Szablewski of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; her father and mother-in- law, Arnold "Petty" and Pauline Provost of West Chazy; three brothers-in-law, Jeff Provost, Arnold Provost Jr. and George Provost; two sisters-in-law, Michelle Provost and Denise Ward; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive her.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Interment will follow at Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.

Friends wishing may make donations to Hospice of the North Country or to St. Joseph’s Church in her memory.

Inez O. Place, 91, of Stone Street in Port Henry, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Port Henry.

She was born Aug. 4, 1910, in Easton, Conn., the daughter of Howard and Lulu (Gilbert) Edwards.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the Spring at Knowlhurst Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry.

DONALD J. HOLLAND, 61, of Franklin Street in Malone, N.Y., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at his camp in Chateaugay Lake.

He was born in Malone on Sept. 3, 1940, the son of Donald J. "Dutch" Holland and Catherine (Mullarney) Holland.

Calling hours will be will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Malone. The Knights of Columbus will meet at the church at 8:30 p.m. for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church on Friday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Raymond Moreau, pastor of St. Augustine’s, officiating and Msgr. C.J. McAvoy concelebrating . Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are with St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home in Malone.
