Elmer R. DuRoss

PORT HENRY — Elmer R. DuRoss, 77, of Route 1 in Cheever, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at his home.

He was born on July 1, 1924, in Port Henry, N.Y., the son of Ernest and Mary (Kingdollar) DuRoss.

Elmer was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Florence (Barnes) DuRoss of Cheever; his sons, Brad DuRoss and Brian DuRoss of Witherbee, Kevin DuRoss of Port Henry and Elmer DuRoss Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his daughter, Corinne DuRoss of Bristol, Vt.; a brother, Ernest DuRoss of Port Henry; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the spring.

Marcus A. Baker

KEESEVILLE — Marcus A. Baker, 21, of Clayton, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 in Canton.

He was born in Plattsburgh, Oct. 22, 1980, the son of Gary A. Baker and Danida Friedman-Baker.

Marcus was a graduate of Thousand Islands High School and was a full-time student at Potsdam University.

Survivors include his father, Gary A. Baker of Keeseville; his mother, Danida Friedman-Baker of Clayton; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Memorial Mass will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville. Burial will he held in the spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Catherine B. Voorhaar

TICONDEROGA — Catherine B. Voorhaar, 88, of Route 74 in Paradox, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a brief illness.

She was born in New York City on Jan. 17, 1913, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann (Burke) Woods.

Formerly residing in Albany, she moved with her husband, Edward Voorhaar, who died on May 2, 1989, to Paradox in 1975. Completely devoted to her family, she was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and, up to the year her knee gave out, she was a familiar participant with her husband in a number of leagues at the Adirondack Bowling Lanes in Ticonderoga.

She is survived by one son, Thomas J. Voorhaar of Rhode Island; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Bernadette) Igoe of Westmere, Mrs. Henry (Kathleen) Casey of Alplaus and Mrs. Matthew (Mary) Colie of Michigan; one sister, Marie Woods of Ticonderoga; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga.

A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home, the Rev. Marjorie J. Floor, pastor of the Episcopal Church of the Cross, officiating.

Burial will be in the Chilson Cemetery family plot in the spring.

JEFFERY A. MAYHEW, 43, of 2357 1st St., Atwater, Calif., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1958, in Plattsburgh, the son of Thomas and Marian (Lavigne) Mayhew.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of local arrangements.

BARBARA OLIVE, STEVENSON, 88, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born Jan. 22, 1913, in Elizabethtown, the daughter of Ross and Adeline (Jaquish) Lamb.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Jan. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons funeral home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be conducted by Georgianna Anson at 7 p.m. following the calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Westport Emergency Squad, Westport, NY 12993.
