Thomas J. Livsey Sr.

Plattsburgh — Thomas J. Livsey Sr., 59, of Pear Street, died Friday evening, Jan. 4, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Woodlawn, N.Y., on Sept. 20, 1942, the son of Francis and Dorothy (Noll) Livsey.

Mr. Livsey was a former member of St. Michael's Church in Lackawanna, N.Y.

He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1466 in Beekmantown, where he served as former commander, American Legion Post 1618 in Saranac, the Disabled American Veterans in Peru and the North Country Vietnam Veterans Association.

Mr. Livsey married the former Christine Ujvari at St. Peter's and Paul's Church in Hamburg in 1964.

He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving three tours of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Livsey was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Buffalo for many years until retiring due to illness in 1989. That year, he moved to Plattsburgh to live.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Thomas J. Livsey Jr., Stephen Livsey and his wife Heidi, Joseph Livsey and his fiancee Billie Jo, all of Plattsburgh and John Livsey and his fiancee Megan of Peru; three daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Whitney) Girard, Renae Livsey and her fiancé Adam Pickering, all of West Chazy and Krystyn Livsey and her fiancé John LaPorte of Plattsburgh; four sisters, Catherine and Geraldine Livsey, both of Blasdell, N.Y., Mrs. Harold (Theresa) Uncapher of Hamburg, N.Y., and Mrs. Bruno (Rose Marie) Wiernik of Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One grandson, Matthew J. Livsey, died earlier.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Members of the VFW will meet at 7 p.m. and members of the American Legion at 7:15 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Renal Center at the CVPH Medical Center.

Gary A. Sprague

MALONE, N.Y. — Gary A. Sprague, 63, of Country Club Road, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at his home with his loving wife at his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.

He was born on May 7, 1938, in Fort Covington, N.Y., the son of Ernest and Evelyn (Lacomb) Sprague. They predeceased him.

He married Linda LaVigne on June 17, 1961, in St. Joseph's Church in Malone, N.Y., with Rev. William Argy officiating. She survives.

Besides his wife of 40 years, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jamie Chamberlain of Peru, N.Y.; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Kris and Barbara Sprague of Albany, N.Y., and Derek and Jennifer Sprague of Malone, N.Y.; also six grandchildren, Danielle Sprague, Morgan Sprague, Brian Sprague, Cameron Sprague, Alexander Sprague and Davis Sprague.

Mr. Sprague attended schools in Malone, N.Y., and graduated from Franklin Academy in 1956. He was an avid member of both the men's basketball and football teams. He later graduated from the University of Miami (Florida) in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in finance.

In the early 1960's, he worked for General Motors and Bakers Furniture for a short period of time. Later he became employed by the Naval Intelligence Service (NIS) and Defense Investigative Service (DIS). He spent the rest of his working career in this employ and retired in 1993.

He was very active in Malone Central School activities and served on the Malone Central School Board for 10 years, of which five were as president of the board. He and his wife spent many hours supporting various sports teams, mostly the girl's varsity basketball team. He was a promoter and charter member of the F.A./St. Joseph's Hall of Fame Committee.

He was a member of the Malone Golf and Country Club for the past several years. He enjoyed working at his camp in Mt. View, N.Y., and earlier in his life, participating in antique car shows with his collection of classic cars.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Gary was a man known to all for his honesty and integrity.

Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be concelebrated Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church with Msgr. C.J. McAvoy and Msgr. Dennis Duprey officiating. Spring burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery on the Lake Titus Road.

Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hall of Fame Committee c/o Molly McKee, 5 Wilcox Ave., Malone, NY 12953 or Hospice of the North Country.

Irene Mae Shutts, 96, formerly of Ellenburg and Chateaugay, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone, N.Y., where she had been a patient since Dec. 29, 1988.

She was born in Ellenburg, N.Y., on Jan 11, 1905, the daughter of Lemuel and Lucy (LaBarre) Lord.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 7th, from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gilbert Menard officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Brainardsville Cemetery, Brainardsville.
