The Rev. Coburn Sweet Jr.

ROUSES POINT — The Rev. Coburn Sweet Jr., 96, formerly of 23 Tremblay Ave., Plattsburgh, and Chazy, died Friday evening Dec. 28, 2001, at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

He was born in Trenton, N.J., April 9, 1905, the son of W. Coburn and Lillian (Cubberly) Sweet Sr.

The Rev. Sweet was a retired Presbyterian minister and a member of the Presbytery of Northern New York until his death.

He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1927, Duquesne University Law School in 1930 and Western Theological Seminary in 1934. The Rev. Sweet married the former Nancy McIlwain at the Castle Shannon Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania in 1934. She predeceased him in 1988.

He practiced law in Pennsylvania for 20 years. The Rev. Sweet subsequently taught in public schools and colleges, and after entering the ministry, served pastorates in Pennsylvania (where he was moderator of the Presbytery of New Castle), Ohio and New York.

The Rev. Sweet was pastor of the Chazy Presbyterian Church from 1960 to 1963 and also taught history and English at Miner Institute in Chazy. He served as assistant pastor at the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church. After retiring from active ministry in 1965, the Rev. Sweet served for ten years as the curator of the Alice T. Miner Museum in Chazy.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. George (Constance) Slosson of West Chazy and Mrs. David (Prudence) Withall of Wheaton, Ill; six grandchildren, Deborah (Slosson) Tilmont and Sharon (Slosson) Bucks of California, Alexander and Andrew Withall of Illinois, Barbara (Slosson) Boulerice and Ronald Slosson of New York. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren and several nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

Funerals services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point, or to the charity of your choice.

Anna M. Caron

Anna M. Caron, 93, of Lake View Towers, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Morrisonville on Dec. 7, 1908, the daughter of Camille and Victoria (Tremblay) Brault.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh and a member of the St. Peter’s Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed traveling, crafts and playing shuffleboard. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Donilda Caron of New Hampshire, Raymond and Shirley Caron of West Chazy and Daun Caron of Pennsylvania; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Elaine and Al Treu of Florida, Barb and Herb Young of Texas, Valerie Szymanski of Washington state, Ann Smart of North Dakota, Annette Caron of Plattsburgh and Claire Caron and Dan Duffina of West Chazy; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Caron, who died in 1975, and one son, Bernard Caron.

Calling hours will be today, Jan. 2, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at 10 a.m. from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will take place later in the year in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
